news just showed the 100th F-35, rolling off the line in Ft Worth. It will be coming to AZ next year.

Eventually Luke AFB will get 100 of them. Each cost $100 million. Mtc and repair over the 50 year life will bring total cost to $1 Billion per plane.

You guys are right, it must have been $1 Billion over the life of the plane.

they were saying there would be 2000 planes eventually, so thats where the T word would come in.

Even so, 100 mill to buy, then 50 years runs up the next 900 million, so 18 million a year, I can believe that, if you factor in fuel, mtc, hangar space, etc. (parts, labor, overhead, shipping, inventory, etc).

Sounds a lot more reasonable, considering things usually cost about 10 times more whenever the government is involved. You not only have to figure in the cost of parts and labor as normal but also the 200 people that are needed to process the paperwork and over see the work being done then write reports, and send up the chain of command.

Unless it is a B-52, not many planes are in the US inventory for 50 years. I would like to we one.

What far, I wonder?
Strafe illegal Dimocraps - no.
Kill Muzzies - no.
Kill Americans- maybe.
Burn gas- yes.
Help bankrupt the US- Bingo.

The C-130 has to be coming up on that number. I say we could've had a few thousand F-20s and some pilots with balls and stomped anyone we've been up against.

training, mostly. Luke AFB is a premier training base because of the sunny (but hot) weather.

I've read that We've spent over 3Trillion $$$ since Johnsons "great society".
Money that could have gotten us to Mars exploration. Money on welfare and poverty programs.
Instead We've got crime and deterioration of every major city in America to show for it.
So I guess what's a few more Trillion$$$ for a few thousand planes when Americans are jobless and on food stamps?

Training for what? Who the hell would the gutless Bastids have us fight? The Bastids destroying this country is them and their friends.

You think China would waste a bullet on us, or Russia? They are sitting back and laughing at us. We are being destroyed from within.

Oh, I forgot. Israel could attack our allies in Iran. Yea, we can bomb Israel.

Could be...I think the jist of the story was the replacement of the F-16 at Luke with the F-35.

EYEBALL,

In Arizona we have a saying, "Better to have one and not need it, than to need one and not have it."

Don't know if you've heard that one, being from back east and all.

That dollar figure is close to accurate for an airplane that's a step backwards...
