I've hunted deer since I was 6 but only in the last 5 years have I picked up bow-hunting. I wanted my first kill to be a special one so I have passed up shooting a lot of does and several decent bucks. I am usually so busy this time of year so Sunday morning was only the 4th day I've made it out this year. I went to the stand that I usually use for rifle hunting since I hadn't sat in it yet and wanted to see what was around. I saw several does and 4 bucks one of which was a real nice 8 point that never got within range. I did a little calling and rattling off and on and this guy came strolling to see what was up. Took me by surprise as he was about where I shot him when I first saw him. He walked about 10ft to the shooting alley it all went down in about 10 seconds from seeing him to sticking him. Also got to use my deer hauler that I have been working on for the last couple years which worked well as where this guy went down would've been a 150 or so yard drag to where I could have got a truck to.

A very mythical looking stag for your first arrow. The legend begins. Thanks for posting this.

Thanks for the nice comments! The inside spread is about 21" and a rough main beam measurement is 23-24".

ANY deer is a trophy with a bow. My hardest specific animal to ever kill was a doe. My easiest bow shot, much like yours, was walk up, draw bow and shoot and was my largest buck. Not nearly as challenging as teh doe was.
Don't discount any animal with a bow.
But thats a heck of a buck and I"d have not passed on him becuase he was so easy to shoot!
On the contrary, be proud thats a heck of a buck and a good way to start!
Congrats!

Oh I agree. Sometimes those old alert does are just as hard to get a good shot on as anything.
I would've missed this guy if I hadn't looked when I did. He had to walk by a big tree to get to the lane which was behind my stand through a V in the tree. I had to quietly attach my release stand up and turn around quickly to not get noticed.
Next goal is a Turkey with my Bow..

Goodness, the hardest part will be expectations.
That is really a nice deer whether it's number 1 or 100.
