UNCCGrad,
As long as they are happy, right?

Smokeeater2,
That is gorgeous. Is that a custom Savage or factory?
Didn't know that caliber combo was available.

Thanks Joe, It's factory but I don't think they made very many in this combination. I've heard they made them in .357 maximum too but I've never seen one.

Whats your pet hawg load? And whats your effective range?
These two shoot a 300 grain cast over 21.5 gr of Win 296 pretty well. The carbine is about 1.5" at 100 if i do my part. I havent taken a shot at game at that range tho. Havent taken any shots at game with it yet in fact.

Joe, The thickets I hunt rarely ever give me a shot father that 50 or 60 yards.

My favorite load for these is a 250 grain LSWC over 12.5 grains of Blue Dot.

I like the sights on your rifle. I'll bet that's a lot faster and better sight picture than I get with the buck horn rear sight on mine. I'm going to have to find something better before long, My eyes aren't as good as they used to be.

Love this thread; wish its founder would visit more often!

Here is my first love, a Mauser 96 American in 06 that I took w/ me to the Black Hills of SD this year. I found this burned out stump in a drainage high above highway 16 between Hill City & Rapid City:

That is a BEAUTIFUL stock on your Ruger! If only wood was as strong and weather resistant as a McMillan stock.

However, good wood is FAR better looking than any fiberglass stock!
