I've been looking for a stainless 22" 700 Ti or MR contour barrel in 243 for some time, but have never found one. Would like to do a faux Ti three-some in 243, 260, and 308. Got the second two, just need the barrel to do the 243.

My main two 243s have 20" barrels--the only drawback is the noise level. They shoot great and don't lose that much over a 22".
On the other hand, I would not cut a mountain rifle down to 20", as you will lose the balance. They are perfect the way they are. If you need to lose more weight on the MR, go aluminum bolt shroud and Rifle Basix aluminum trigger. Then put a flipflop recoil pad on. Good ideas. I should make a list of things to do to lighten her up. I am concerned about loosing the "feel" of the mountain rifle. Might get a little light in the muzzle. One question. What exactly is a flipflop recoil pad?

I was talking to a guy yesterday who owns a Remington 600 in 6MM and he was thinking about installing a muzzle brake on it to tame the recoil. I told him I wouldnt as these guns are getting pretty collectible and pricy.

Flipflop pad is a homemade recoil pad glued on and ground down to fit, made from a flipflop. Weighs less than 1/2 ounce, compared to 5 ounces for most recoil pads. It is the easiest, cheapest, most significant weight savings available.

As others have mentioned, 20" 243win rifles can be a bit loud, but I'd not feel undergunned at medium ranges if shooting 95-100gr Partitions at 2,900FPS+.
Now with even more aplomb

I haven't tried the Partitions, yet, but do want to give them a go.

Most times I'll take a 20" barrel over a 22". I have 20" in 243, 308, and 284 Winchester.

Yipes! A 20" 284 ought to bark pretty good.

My son has a M700 ADL with the 20" barrel. I am able to run 105 AMax's at 2950 pretty easily with RL22.. RL19 runs 90AB's around 3075 and no issues either. Rifle is very accurate, and I am not sure the extra barrel would add too much to the package. It is a great little rifle. Deserves a better stock, but it shoots pretty well as is.
