Yes, thanks for the link sgt. There are some rifles on there that are pretty close to what I had in mind. I'm going to go with more ofa sporter weight because I'll likely pack it hunting. I'm thinking 18"#4 in a B&C should come in about 6.5 pounds without the scope. A 3.5-10 with m1's and I should be 7.5ish.

I've shot a 30-06 with an 18" barrel and it was a brute.
The .308s virtues are it's accuracy and mild manners. An 18" barrel for me sacrifices the mild manners part. I would go at least 20" as the noise and blast created going down to 18" is exponential.

.308 win (10 twist) 21" PAC NOR just slightly heavier than a mag contour and fluted. MCM- HTG stock. I've never weighed it but she handles like a dream and will stack 150's and 165's.

Guys he said threading it for a can!!
Noise is not a factor!
I would go look at what Remington is doing and only use an AAC can.

I get it... 2,800 with a 155 is NOT possible @ 18"... (ie, safely).

I ran the 155 over Varget through QL last night, 2.800" OAL, 18" barrel and started adding powder, I stopped at 2800 fps @ 72K psi.

What does it say for 51g PP2000MR and LC LR brass. I'm getting over 2700 from a 16" AR-10 with 155's. But I admit they may be warm. My 20" 308 ran 155's at almost 2850. I'm just guessing that 2800 from an 18" is possible but I've been wrong before.

I fought the short barrel thing for many years. About a year ago I built a 16" .308 and will never have a longer barrel on a .308 again. It is almost my favorite rifle now, even though the .308 is a turd.
If you shoot a centerfire rifle without ear pro you're going to suffer hearing damage. I wear a set of electronic ears every time I pull the trigger. No more worries.
I get 2520 with a 175 SMK I get 2625 with a 168 AMAX
Nosler E-Tip 168gr factory ammo runs 2500fps.

GT, ya got a pic of yer carbine? Wanna see Volunteer State blueprints. Been winder-licken' that snubnose 700 SPS .300AAC @ Wally World, but the snipershide thread has got me thinking bout a bob-job on my LTR .308 as an alternative. That'd put me severall C-notes closer to a .30-cal. Suppressor and can just protect the threads wif a Noveske Pig to divert noise away from the truck cab during the year-long wait for a stamp. Wishin like fire I'd bought that Weatherby Ultralight .308 after the T&E years ago. Its fluted SS barrel SS bbl woulda been ideal for these purposes at 16.25-in., not to mention a bit more wieldy on foot.

Pretty is as pretty does. It'll be Kryloned to a fare-thee-well or dipped in Kryptek, so only close exam will reveal the aesthetic faux pas.
