I bought a couple boxes of S&B's 173 gr SPCE ("cutting edge") but haven't had a chance to try them yet. I'm thinking about punching a hole in a hog with one just to see how they work. Have any of y'all used them in 7x57? Just wondering how they perform. It looks like a gimmick to me, but at $15 per box I thought I'd give them a try. I can always use the brass.

How good is that brass? Have you loaded it before?

Brass is good/middle of the road. S&B is considered a cheap ammo in europe (compared to RWS/Norma).

Haven't used that projjie but it looks like a variation on a theme. Everyone is re-designing the wheel when it comes to projectiles these days.

7x57: conventional round with conventional velocities = needs a conventional bullet IMO.

I've not loaded it. I've never even shot these things before. I'm just wondering how they work. They sure are odd looking.

I haven't seen any difference between S&B and Prvi Partizan, just cheap basic ammo for the guy who hunts a few days per year and might shoot a box of ammo every couple of years.

S&B makes Cabela's "Herter's" brand ammo.

I currently shoot, or have shot, S&B and PP ammo in 22-250, 6.5x55, 7x57, 7.5x55, and 8x57. Just good, cheap, basic ammo that works fine if you keep in mind that this ammo is more likely to shoot 3 MOA than it is to shoot 1 MOA.

It's far & away the most accurate factory ammo in my rifle. Between my buddy's rifle & mine, those 173's have accounted for 5 or 6 hogs, from 5 to about 100 yards. The same buddy took a nice 10 point white tail with them last year, & reported finding a perfect mushroom under the hide on the off-side.

The accuracy was good enough that I carried them on an elk hunt, but I ate the tag because I was in BC, & couldn't get on a 6pt during that trip. I was drawn on an excellent 5x5 bull, posing broadside for me, for every bit of 60 seconds. We just couldn't make out a 6th knob anywhere, so I never pressed the trigger. frown

Some may question the bullet toughness, & that may be legitimate. However, I figured that 173 grains going at leisurely 7x57 velocities ought to hold together well enough, even if one hits bone.

And you're right: for $15 you really can't go wrong trying them out.

I've used them in 8x57. Shot ok. Performed about like Power Points on deer at 55-120 yds.

The ranges I generally shoot hogs is about 75 yards. My favorite shot is the one Geedubya uses: just below the ear. At that range and with that shot, I'm sure they'll work fine.

I used that load out of my #1A on a 130 lb. WT angling away at 43 yards. The bullet traveled 27" ending-up in back of the opposite shoulder. Deer droped within 30 yards.

Also the brass shoots better than W-W does in my reloads.
