Yup, the current crop of reticles on Swaro, Zeiss, Leica, and even S&B (Summit) has been disappointing. Either too thin, and/or the center hairs (especially on a so-called German #4) are spaced too far apart for my preference. You should check out the Swarovski BRH reticle. I think you might be pleased with it. It is a heavier ballistic reticle that can be seen without illumination. I had the Schmidt and Bender 4-16X50 with the Varmint reticle and it was too fine for low light hunting. I sold it and bought the Swarovski 3-18 Z-6 with BRH reticle and it has been better than the Schmidt and I don't think I gave up a thing in the optics department. The BRX reticle is excellent for Varminting, The BRH is too big. Swarovski does have it pretty much pegged...

i wonder how the 3-12 x 56 Zeiss Victory HT would perform as a low light scope.

JGRaider No offense Mannlicher, but the days of "pay a lot more, get a lot more" are mostly a memory nowadays. You sure got that right !

No "Christmas tree" reticles for me thanks!

Among the very best I have tried/used(even if I did not hunt with all of them, I hung out at our range until well after dark to aim at deer with them from 100-400 yards),have been the older Swaro PH 2.5-10 with its standard duplex(outstanding),Kahles 3.5-10X5mm (fantastic) and again with standard reticle.
I noticed up in Alberta that the 3.5-10X Leupold VX3 was very good;better than I expected.
Like anything S&B, the Summit is fabulous and among the best;the darker it got, the better it got optically. The reticle is a bit thin but I still have never "lost it" aiming at deer until after shooting light was long gone.
When I had them both, I did a lot of comparisons with the Swaro PH vs the 3-9 Conquest, which was surprisingly good;but could not hang with the Swaro as it got later.
I noticed that peering across open areas into timber as it got really dark, separated the good stuff from the great stuff. I have never seen anything better than Swaro,Kahles, and S&B for when it gets really down and dirty.
I have never owned a high end Zeiss.
The 280 Remington is overbore.
The 7 Rem Mag is over bore.

I want to try one. I am convinced the HT is better than the older Victory Diavari.

The HT uses the new Schott High Transmission (HT)glass. It's the next generation of brightness for Zeiss. It is the highest transmission riflescopes that Zeiss has ever made, available only in the new Victory series.

BRH is not Christmas tree... Reticle sure does resemble one to me! In fairness, I'm not a fan of any "cluttered" type reticle. Whether dots, mils, hashes, Christmas trees, etc. Simple, straight forward, center of cross-hairs for me. Turrets if I need/want long range.

I guess that's not a Christmas Tree reticle cause there's no tinsel and candy canes present.
