Under the heading of "no wonder" I recently got my comuppance when I took someone to task over their usage of "semi-automatic Assault rifle". When I explained that there ain't no such critter I was lead by the nose & shown that is is an official legal term.
It is found as official terminology in:
The Atomic Energy Act, section 161A (see 43 U.S.C. Part 2201a)
Gun Control Act
National Firearms Act
And it should be no surprise that it is specifically stated in BATF regulation 27 CFR 478.11

Guess how that got in there. It will take Congressional action to get these documents amended, so lets "get er done" write your Congressional Reps. I did mune tonight.

As you know...congress is a Charlie Foxtrot. "Legal Terms"? I mean if they call a bolt rifle a "Pull and Plunge single-shot Firearm with a magazine" what do you care? Many "gun savvy" people say things like "clip" when they mean "magazine", or "caliber" when they mean "cartridge." If you see things like that on this site, which you do, then why ride congress for their techno-jargon mistakes?

I guess the reason I care is that this twisting of fact is being used as an excuse to outlaw privately owned "look-alike" semiauto firearms. A foot in the door so to speak.
It is no secret that the BATF is running rampant over peoples civil rights when it comes to fireaerms. This is just one example of their "justification".
Wont be the first time I attacked the windmills by myself while everyone else sat on their duffs, probably wont be the last, but at least I TRIED.
