I been killing deer a few years now in Wi with a stock .260 rem Mountian rifle. Using Federal Fusion 120's. Only one has gone more than a step or two. I am so impressed with the .260 the family continues to grow in my safe. I am going to start loading some barnes now that I have .260 brass. I emailed barnes about the 127 LRX. And asked if the would stabilize out on my 23" 1 in 8.5 twist Krieger barreled Remington. I got an email back today stating that it would not. And being so long it requires a higher twist rate than that. My one .260 Mountain rifle is stock. And it shoots 140's nice. And keyholes .120's and 130's in a 1 in 9 twist. Does anyone have experience with the LRX in a stock gun or a 1 in 8.5 twist rate?

Barnes recommends 1:8 for the LRX seated at .03-.07 off the lands for accuracy in most cases.

Exactly.... But what I would like to know if there is anyone that has had success shooting them in a stock rifle or a 8.5 in 1 twist rate before I spend money on something that won't shoot. If others have had success with it I would chance it. Some say 9 in 1 is good up to 130's. Others say 130's and under. Mine shoots 120's and 130's keyhole and will shoot 140's pretty well. Now my custom has a faster rate. And the 127 are smaller in gr than 130's and 140's. Just have not much experience with Barnes. If others have tried and they shoot... I am more inclined to try them. Being long I think they would be a great Whitetail bullet at any range.

Stabilizing bullets has more to do with bullet length than weight from what I understand. Lighter Barnes bullets are longer for their weight because the solid copper is less dense than lead. 22 caliber barnes 52gr bullets won't stabilize in some rifles that shoot 55gr bullets fine for this reason.

Also. long range bullets usually have a long, slender, boat tail design to get the higher BC numbers.

I'd give it a try. Lots of rifles stabilize bullets that the formulas say they shouldn't.

Why do you need the 127LRX as opposed to the 120g TTSX? For long range shots, not sure a solid copper bullet is needed.

Was more looking at shooting them on a 600 yard range. And from what others say they fly very nice. I do shoot deer out to 300. So your probably right I don't really need them. Just thought the extra 7 grains would come in handy at the 250 plus range for deer. Kind of a nice balance between 120 and 130. I like to shoot at the range what I hunt with. I know expensive.... But, it give you confidence and consistency shooting the same bullet all the time. JMHO.

You got me wondering and so I checked the length of some 6.5 bullets I have on hand.
127LRX 1.396"
120GMX 1.400"
120 TTSX 1.321"
120 TSX 1.251"
140 AMax 1.377
Of my rifles the 260 with a 1-8 will handle them all
The 260 1-9 skinny barrel gets fed 140core-lokt or 120 bal. tip.
The 6.5x284 is a 1-8 and handles them all as well.
Hope I haven't muddied the water.

My wife's 18.5" Model 7 with a 1/9" twist shoots the 140 Game King better than anything. It shouldn't shoot that bullet at all, but it does.

I had best luck with the 127 LRX at 0.080" off, by the way.

I may just buy a box and get back to you guys on this.... But here was the email I got back.

This bullet will not stabilize in that twist rate. The heavier our bullets get the longer they get thus requiring a faster twist being needed.
