I'm looking at getting one in 375. Anyone on the campfire who has experience with a Sako AV, I'd appreciate your input.

Shot an older one in .308 and it shot and handled well. It is not a true one piece Manlicher as it had a separate fore end under the barrel band swivel. This nay have made it more accurate as the fore end is sort of free floated.

A .375 would be nice.

Knew a guy who picked up a 375 for cheap back in the early 90s, had a heck of a time selling it.

Had one in 30-06 back in the 80's. Beautiful rifle. Handled and shot well. Like some women in my past, never should have let it walk out of my life............

I almost had one in .338WM, wearing a leupold 2.5x, but talked myself out of it. The 20" barrel was a bit too short for my liking...

Not Mannlichers but both my AV's (.270 and .280) are sub MOA guns. Would buy another in a heartbeat if funds were not tight, what with Christmas shopping to do and all.

If you did a search, you would have seen that I recently posted a picture of mine in the Express & Big Bore section. Not sure what kind of input you're looking for, or if you have any experience with SAKO's (particularly the A-series), but here goes:

-It's a .375 H&H, so it will be very versatile.

-It's a SAKO, so it will have a good barrel and a good trigger, unless someone has abused it or otherwise messed things up.

-In the Mannlicher model it will be very pleasant to carry and the buttstock, though ugly to some eyes, is very comfortable with handling .375 recoil. It will also work very well with both scopes and irons.

-Just my personal opinion, but the A-series actions represent the best of the SAKO line in terms of design and craftsmanship.

-While I might be a little leery of a 20" .338 Mag, I've found no problems with the same length .375 in terms of shootability or accuracy.

I shot one of those short-barreled Sako Mannlichers in .375 H&H at the range one day (comparing it to my "normal" Sako in a McMillan stock in the same chambering).

I thought that it was a nice light rifle, it shot well, had fantastic balance, and the recoil was not that bad (although I would not want to shoot if off the bench all day!).

A rifle that is as short as a Winchester 94, only slightly heavier and chambered in .375 H&H... I'd buy one in a heartbeat!

It is the perfect rifle for, well, anything within 300 yards! smile
