I bought the 99A saddle gun from TnBigBore awhile back and a few people here seem to think it is a pretty rare one. Is there any way to find out how many of these they actually made in 300 Savage?

They were, in the early 70s in .250 Savage, .300 Savage, .243 Winchester and .308 Winchester.

I also had one in 358, plus still have one in 375. I've seen three 300's total, one or two 243's, 2 358's, a few 375's, the remainder being 250's and 308's. Someone had one in 7mm-08 at one of the Savage fests as well that was supposedly correct.

The short answer is "no".

When Savage switched to the A Series serial (serial on the side of the receiver) we lost the ability to even guess at how many 99 were produced each year. Everything produced went into the same serial group. Whatever came down the production line got the next serial number...shotgun, .22 or center fire. All we have to go on is what people have seen over the years.
