Not getting any attention in the other thread, so I thought I'd make another.
8mm Mauser, left hand
- New Lothar-Walther repro K98k barrel
- Reused parts from a pre-war K98k (except for barrel)
- Unertl 4x Hawk Scope on Leupold mount & rings
- .5 MOA (supposed - I requested .5 MOA accuracy when I commissioned the build, I'm skeptical that it would shoot that well.)
- Reddish stain (applied by my father) with boiled linseed oil finish
I don't have the tools to weigh the trigger, but it's very nice. Smooth with perfect after travel, IMO. I learned to shoot position rifle shooting with an Anschutz 1903 at 25 meters, so I'm not some chump saying "oh nice trigger!" It really is a superb trigger!
I'd say the smith also polished the bolt or the railways, because I see a lot of people commenting on the grittiness of the bolt. There's none here, but there is an occasional hang up if you pull/push the bolt off to the side a bit. Inherent loose-tolerance design of the Mauser? I dunno.
Anyway, onto the pics!
HUGE photo of the bore. This was the best picture I could get of the rifling, sorry it isn't better:
http://i.imgur.com/GOHPFmP.jpgIt's fun to shoot but heavy and hard on the shoulder. Which is sort of why I haven't figured out if it actually shoots .5 MOA - I haven't shot it much.
I've dumped $1200 into this rifle. I'm certain I won't get anywhere near $1200, but I'm curious what you folks have to say.
Thanks!
Jay
