Is anyone else having a hard time finding 7mm-08 factory ammo? A local outfitter had a great deal on Vanguard S2/VX-1 3-9x40 packages and I've been itching to try the 7mm-08 so I picked one up. When I bought it I also picked up some 120gr HPs but the local offerings are slim so I went to the internet. Everywhere I've looked is sold out/backordered. Is this common for this cartridge? I used the 120's to sight in and absolutely love this rifle/caliber. Maybe now is a good time to start reloading? Oh yeah, obligatory pic:

Start reloading. There is plenty of 243 and 308 brass laying around at every range I've been to. I have never shot a factory round out of my 7-08 so I never look for it. But from what I have heard it is pretty hard to find.

And what kind of deal did you get?
What scope model is that?
And to answer your question, I haven't seen factory 7mm-08 for awhile. I reload but I like to check prices.

I never buy factory ammo; reloading is something you should look into if you want to avoid these situations in the future. I figure I can make it fine for many years in several calibers with what I have on hand. Plus I can shoot a lot more often than I could if I had to buy factory ammunition. You would probably enjoy reloading.

How does that rifle shoot? I didn't group it, merely got it on paper then sighted in 2.5" high @100yds so I can take it in the woods. Shooting off a bag, it's awesome; recoil is almost non-existent with 120s. Excellent trigger(though the 2-stage takes some getting used to), excellent fit/finish, & handles great with just enough weight forward. The bolt was a little tight, but after cleaning, lubing, & putting 20 rounds down the tube it's quite nice. Overall, it feels like a rifle costing 2x as much and Weatherby says it will shoot like one. As soon as I can find some more ammo and get back to the range I'll try to get a group on paper. The first time I pulled the trigger I was grinning ear to ear. I think I have found my "everyday" rifle.

What scope model is that? Everything in the photo was $700. Except the Montana sling, I had it laying around. The scope is a Leupold VX-1 3-9x40 on Leupold rings.

Yep, you will like the 7mm-08. Hope you can find some ammo.

jwood, great looking and solid set-up. I just got my first 7-08 last month (Ruger 77 All-Weather), and I love it. I think you will really like the caliber. It seems when the shortage was in full swing 7mm08 was everywhere. I'm finding that isn't the case so much now.

Even during the best of times the selection is limited. Take up reloading and you can turn that cartridge into something Remington never envisioned.

If you haven't already done it, try ammoseek.com. It's generally pretty reliable.

I couldn't find the fed power shock my rifle likes and it was limited in other brands. Nothing on the shelves here after MN deer season. The ammo buy up cleaned out everything and only off brands or expensive can be found. Maybe.
Other than that, How was the show Mrs. Lincoln?
