How are these for hunting glass? The pair I have are from the ice as as far as new glass goes. I liked the Terra ed's when I peeked through them and they were head and shoulders above what I currently have.

I tested one a couple months ago and was pretty impressed with the optics. It's made in China but then so are a bunch of other very good binoculars these days.

I have looked them over several times. I think the optics are pretty impressive. Overall the binocular seems pretty solid, sort of Zeiss like actually.

My girlfriend hunts with me on most of my biggest hunting trips. She runs video on almost all of them now.
We have been sharing my leicas on most outings. This summer we went whale watching in the San Juan islands. I decided then she needs her own glasses. I'm optically selfish I guess. The question was 8 or 10?
I prefer hunting with 8x most of the time. The steadiness and brightness trumps the 12.5 yards difference at 500 yards. I do use 10x42 for judging client trophies so I know 10x's have their place too.
I looked over a ton of glasses to see what I should get her. It really came down to a couple different models. Fortunately I know lots of guys with various glasses to try and get a feel for. I looked through these Tera's and really liked them. Oddly enough the gap between $1000 glasses and $500 glasses closed quite a bit in the last 10 years. In the last few years some of the $200,$300,$400 glasses have made these choices even more difficult. In some cases it seems to me you almost need a scientific study done to understand the differences. In some glasses I looked through I had to do a double take at the brand because they seemed so good.
I think the quality of construction and the way they feel in your hands is now an equal concern to the quality of the glass. Another thing, I find important is the winged eye cups. More common on Steiner and khales. Great glasses like my Leica trinovids without the ability to block peripheral light are more difficult to use at times then lower quality glasses that block all peripheral light.
I handled a pair of the Zeiss terra EDs. They are very nice. I could get them for 300 bucks delivered. Needless to say, Santa is bringing her a new pair of 8x42 Terra's for Xmas!

It was not a retail situation. They were an evaluation pair no longer needed by the company. Just lucked into it.

They are $349 at Cabelas, with a coupon you could get them around $300

I just bought a pair for my son, like them so much, thinking might get some for me. I have a very expensive pair of Zeiss binos, but always worry they will get banged up. As JJ mentioned, there is a difference, but the Terra's are great.

Advanced notice: I am out of the store till Monday, however, we are running an inventory reduction sale thru the end of the year as I HATE doing inventory and that is what the new year brings. I told Neil and Joel to sell everything in the sports optics dept so I have nothing to count when I get back. If you're looking for glass give them a call @ 212-753-5128 and metion the "Doug Hates Doing Inventory" sale
