I noticed a limited edition Model 70 Featherweight in 7x57. They also offer the same rifle in 7-08. My guess is that the 7x57 uses a long action and the 7-08 uses the short action. What say you? thanks...

7x57 all the way on a Model 70. Classic!

JOC was right. The 270 Winchester on a Model 70 is a great combination as is the 30/06 and 375 H&H

Correct, the 7X57 is a long action / 7-08 is short.

I literally just got back to work after picking up my 7X57. grin

If you don't reload something to consider is that there is a much larger selection and availability of factory 7mm-08 than there is 7x57.

If you do reload then pick whether you like a short action or a long action.

I did read in a recent article (January G&A, on metric cartridges I think?) that the 7mm-08 is supposedly more inherently accurate than the 7x57.

After having numerous rifles chambered for each, I would have to respectfully disagree with that statement. You may have issues with some rifles chambered in 7X57 having excessively long throats, but I wouldn't say one was more accurate than the other.

Craig Boddington said it, not me. I believe it was more of just an offhand opinion of his own, not necessarily backed by and factual evidence. Perhaps he's just had better experiences with his sample of rifles chambered in 7mm-08 than 7x57.

I've had some of both. You will hear folks screaming about the advantages/disadvantages of both of them. In high voice, of course. When, in fact, there is little difference between them. You can't go wrong by choosing either one.

Yeah a Model 70 Featherweight in 7x57 definitely has the COOL FACTOR! Know a guy that has one in 7x57 and 6.5x55 and won't sell me either one... course I aint selling him mine in 6mm Rem either. wink

Here are some girly pictures I took on my first African plains game safari. ALL taken with one shot each with a loaner 7x57 and factory 175 grain ammo...

The 7x57 is a gay cartridge that should be chambered in rifles with sequin covered barrels and rainbow stocks. Unless it is AI'd, then belongs in classy walnut and steel

You're going to be at the spring pig hunt, right? It will then be incumbent upon you to keep me drunk enough that I don't remember you posted that...
