our very own blackdogsrule shot this super 24.5 inch wide 160+ whitetail last week in South Dakota. 360 yard shot with a 300 Win mag as I recall.

Nice buck. Looking like West River country? Maybe shading toward the Black Hills...

West of the big river. That's all ill say. We've been hunting this area for quite a while, blackdogsrule much longer than me. We have managed to pull some really nice deer out thru the years.

Pic doesn't do this deer justice. This thing is a hammer! That's because he's long-arming the picture AND sitting behind the antlers where there should only be blue sky. 24.5" gotta be outside.

I did say a couple of nice ones. Here is mine. BTW both blackdogsrule and I shot our deer on same day within minutes of one another at 12 noon chasing does. We were miles apart. Its a long, cold, hard day staying out from sun up to sundown freezing your gahonies off and getting pummeled by that relentless SD wind but this proves to me yet again that mid day is no time for napping. Bucks know it too. One of our best friends took a super nice 10 point along with us. I'll try to post that tomorrow cause the pics of his deer are on my work computer.

I forgot. There aren't any big whitetails in SD. Nothing to see here...

Love West River.... really nice bucks in a year where EHD took a lot of the bucks out of the picture before season in many parts of WR.

Great story behind this buck. Was hard won and taken on the last afternoon of the last day of our hunt. Congrats to our buddy on a super nice whitetail.

All three are gorgeous deer! Glad you had a great time. I've hunted West River (Stanley County) every year for over 20 years now and it is my favorite weekend of the year, hands down. Partly nostalgia (grew up 90 miles east), partly social (hunt with and visit good friends), and partly because the country is so beautiful and open and the possibility of deer lies over every hill and draw that you can't see by just looking at it. Lots of walking opportunity that reveals new cover and terrain with every step.
