Are you looking for opinions on what to buy or looking to buy one from someone here on the site?

If you are looking to buy, you'll have more luck posting this over in the classifieds.

If you want opinions, it's hard to beat a Tikka if you can find one. I love mine. I also recently found a Marlin XS7 in 243 for a friend who is just getting into hunting, and she loves it. I think Marlin makes them in 25-06. A Savage will be cheap and accurate, but I personally just can't get past the looks. The Ruger American might be another good option, but I'm not sure if they come in 25-06. Weatherby Vanguards are great rifles, but on the heavy side for a youngster.

Those who must raise their voice to get their point across are generally not intelligent enough to do so in any other way.

I'd get the lad to the nearest gun store with a decent selection, & have him handle as many rifles as possible. I'm assuming he'll be new to shooting, since you said, " start deer hunting". As such, it'll will really help him out to have a rifle that fits him well. If budget is a concern, keep him confined to Savage, Ruger American, Stevens, Remington 783 (if you've got the constitution to try one), and Marlin. And go overboard on the hearing protection at the range: plugs and ear muffs are a great thing for a new shooter.

FWIW, I've been impressed with the two Marlin X7's I've owned. No matter which rifle he likes best, though, posting a WTB in the classifieds here would likely net you a a few to consider.

Good Luck, & keep us posted on his success!
