This is correct. However, what would truly make a 7x57 cool in the Winchester would be to shoehorn the 7x57 into the short action. The featherweight is a misnomer at the best of times, but go up to a long action and it is really starting to get porky. The M70 LA is a real pig of an action that swamps the intermediate length cartridges. I can't see the point in agonizing about an ounce here and there in rings and scope and then use such an oversized action.
As I recall, the M70 short action actually has a length of about 3.1", and typically a 7x57 round with a 140 grainer will come in with a COAL of about 3". I have seen a M70 SA in 7x57. I wish they would do a Bob in the M70 SA. Wish I would have gone this route.

"An archer sees how far he can be from a target and still hit it, a bowhunter sees how close he can get before he shoots." It is certainly easy to use that same line of thinking with firearms. -- Unknown

I noticed a limited edition Model 70 Featherweight in 7x57. They also offer the same rifle in 7-08. My guess is that the 7x57 uses a long action and the 7-08 uses the short action. What say you? thanks... This is correct. However, what would truly make a 7x57 cool in the Winchester would be to shoehorn the 7x57 into the short action. I wish they would do a Bob in the M70 SA. NH short action, a ruger 280 takeoff, and a Brown Precision stock. Cerakoted sniper grey. Pretty minimal work to make the 7x57 fit and feed. I even shot a whitetail last month and a buddy used it to shoot a bigger one.
