Just a word of thanks for the advice I received with regards to buying a new rifle. I asked about .243 or 25/06 and what brand to buy and got a lot of great answers. Based on those answers, I just got home with a Ruger American .243. I just wanted to say that I appreciated the time that people took to answer my questions.

Now we want to hear how it shoots!

And how it kills . . .
Get a trophy (even a squirrel).

I dont have the scope yet. Gonna put a Leupy VX3 3.5X10 on it but it may take a few weeks or more to get it as I will buy it through the Firearm Safety Training Instructor program for the big discount.
I suppose I could just shoot it with rings on it. They are kinda like an oversized peep site, right?

Yah. You might want to shoot at an oversized target.
I have wanted to try that but never thought of it at the right time.
I got to shoot one of those Rugers in .308 and was amazed! Enjoy yours.
The Mayans had it right. If youre going to predict the future, its best to aim far beyond your life expectancy, lest you wind up red-faced in a bunker overstocked with Spam and ammo.

from a rest, I can hit a man sized target with just rings at 75 yards.
Its not great, but it will do in a pinch.
