Just don't see them mentioned much and don't know why because I'm pretty darn sure a bunch of them are shot each year at game animals and they are offered as reloading components by Remington.

This year I shot a big bodied half rack buck with my old 270 using 150 gainers as he was walking directly towards me at 175 yards on the edge of my upper field. This is a shot that I would normally not take waiting instead for a close broadside shot but he had his nose to the ground and could turn at any moment.

Shot him square in the chest below the neck as he raised his head and the bullet exited next to his tail with a sizable (very big) exit hole.

Is this standard performance for the Core-Lokt line of bullets ?

Color me impressed. smile I've been loading my 270 ammunition for many, many years and have about every bullet in that caliber on the market on my bench and just got lazy and bought 2 boxes of factory stuff on a whim. My old pre 64 ftw. never did like 130 grain bullets much so the last few years 160 Partitions have shot very well thus the 150 grain choice for the green boxes.

Your thoughts ?

Denny.

If efficient and a proven track record is boring then they are.

Kinda like the 30-06, 270, & 308... LR-wise they're "lame" but history suggests they just friggin work.

I don't use em often but they've always worked perfectly when I have.

They're only boring to those who are brainwashed easily.

I could not get them to group well in my 7mm but they shoot pretty good in our 25-06 and 30-06 and have killed a bunch of deer with them.

I've killed several Mule deer and one Blacktail deer with my old Remington 725 .280 Remington using Remington factory 150 grains PSP Core-Lokt bullets. They worked quite well for me. Venison in the freezer whenever I pulled the trigger.

I shoot 130 grain Core-Lokts in my 270 with excellent results on deer and with excellent accuracy. As ugly as they are, you wouldn't think they would shoot that well.

I would probably shoot them if I couldn't reload a more premium bullet for less money. Granted I am in Alaska and prices here are inflated, but I cannot justify spending $99 for a box of 20 rounds for factory corelokts. My rifle is a .300saum so it isn't very common, and the same 4 boxes have been on the shelf for over a year now, and I expect they will be there for quite a while.

Not boring in the least. One good buck chase across the countryside that had a Core-loss come apart on the shoulder makes for a right sporty morning.

I ve used them a lot over the years as they were readily available in bulk price wise. I have to say they have always proved to shoot well in most of my firearms. Frankly their performance has been excellent on deer and I have only caught one bullet a 100 gr 243 that penetrated both shoulders and was under the hide on the off side. Looked like a advertising picture perfect mushroom. I also had a 120 gr 25 cal from my Roberts penetrate a deer lengthwise from brisket to flank which I thought was pretty decent. So no they don't bore me. I have noted they are not the bargain they once were as the prices have risen more closely to the other brands

I've never shot anything but paper with them out of an '06 . I've got some 165 grainers I'd like to try on Pronghorn . The 180 grain factory roundnose doesn't feed well in my JC Higgins model 51 . Every other round that I've tried chambers flawlessly- the CL 180's RN just get chewed up . That said they seem to penetrate well on paper targets - pass throughs everytime .

I've had pretty good luck with them over the last 40+ years. Thought enough of there abilities in factory ammo to buy the bullets for reloading them. Yeah there are higher BC bullets to pick from but if you shoot most of your deer and antelope under 300 yds like I do, it's a moot point. A hunting pard once hit a young mule buck badly, all but severing the right frt leg with his 300 Win Mag ,5 hrs later of tracking him I was able to end it with a single 130 gr Corelokt out of my 270 at about 300 yds from back to frt full penetration to laying under the hide in frt of the brisket. The bullet looked like it was out of a magazine ad picture and weighed 102 grs, I was impressed . Yet no brand or size works perfectly all the time. I had some older Remington Corelokts in 25 cal at 100 grs, might be fine at 250- Savage or 257 Robts velocities but they came apart fast when shot at 3300 + fps in my 25-06. The old 185 8mm RP Corelokt had a less than stellar rep when used in the 8mm Rem Mag but I bought 200 of them bulk pack to use in my M700 Classic in 8X57. I'll bet they will be fine at 2500-2600fps in that rifle.Lot of people have used RP Corelokts for along time with satisfactory results. Maybe you need to find that out for yourself. Magnum Man

Everybody is talking about deer. My gunsmith has got an elk every year for the last 40 years with a .280 and core-lokts.

The 220 30-06 factory ammo, is a little bit like a freight train.

Your reply could fit every single bullet available, every single week there's a post about a Core-loss, Tsx that didn't expand, Ballistics tips that shattered on bone, yada yada yada...

You chased one deer, meanwhile a couple thousand other critters hit the ground instantly when shot by the same projectile,

Clearly, the bullet is at fault..

as a kid in california , a 280 ackley and 150 corelokts bought for 7.00 per 100, i shot many ,many wild boar and blacktails, to idaho and colorado took muledeer and elk, dont remember loosing any animals and only shooting a couple 2x,
now that i have bigger longer range weapons and bigger scopes i think i need better ammo i guess,

only since i have gotten older and wiser? have i decided i need bergers, accubonds ect. because those old corelokts just didnt work,,,especially reading the gossip everywear, was out in the reloading room earlier, i still have about 6000, 150 and 175 .284 corelokts,
i imagine i could use my 7-300 win mag and 175 corelokts and take any animal i will need the rest of my life,,,
