I have a T/C New Englander 50 cal cap lock and am wondering if I can use Pyrodex pellets if I switch to musket caps and nipple. Any suggestions would be welcome. Thank you.

Why do you want to do this? The gun was made for powder.

Pellets won't work for crap without a powder prime.

Can you use pellets,..probably, although I don't know if I'd go past 100gr worth..

Will ignition be 100%,...probably not.

Loose powder would work much better if it's available...

If I "had" to use pyrodex, I'd put a few grains of loose pyrodex or BP under the pellets before loading...

Would not suggest it. I had one many years ago. It shot great with loose pyrodex and maxi balls out to 75 yards. That is about as far as I could shoot with open sights. Nice gun!

Thanks gents. I'll stick with my loose RS. The thing shoots the SST's xtreamly well so why screw up a good thing?

mine doesn't even particularly like loose pyrodex. RWS caps, Goex 3f, and PRB's make it run like clockwork.

Pyrodex P works better than the RS, but real BP always works the best.
