I spotted a new 1892 in 454 Casull locally for $550.00 and was wondering if that is a good price for it? It is a blue model with a 20 inch barrel.

I had some interest in mine recently. I wanted a little more than that. New in SS they are MSRP over $700.00

I would say if your interested buy it, they are nice rifles.

I wish I had never sold mine. Amazing little carbines. Lots of power for such a small compact size. They DO kick a bit, though with full house loads.

I would trade my pre war tang peep equipped 32 Special 1894 with lots of ammo to get another one of these. OR my LNIB Taurus 44 Magnum revolver with compensated vent rib 6 inch bbl, in the box and ready for one of these 454's. If I get my hands on another, it likely wont ever get away from me this time.

Did that tell you something about how I feel about these?????

I think that's about right, though you'll want to offer less.

I'm a big fellow, and I find a .44 puma a handful with stout loads. I have heard some real horror stories from the .454.

I'd love to own one and hand load for it. With the larger case I think you could get a .45 Colt feel with increased performance.

I have the 454 ss and find with full power hornady loads it is mild. with 45 colt loads it is like a pussy cat. this gun lives behind the door down stairs for those close encounters of a fourth kind. griz, moose, etc. just a very handy little carbine with power. if anybody knows where I can find a new butt stock for it i'd be grateful. horse rolled on it. started a new one from a blank and have just run out of steam.

i bet you could realize the potential of that caliber in a rifle much better than in, say, a Ruger Alaskan...

Have one a SS 16"er in 45 C. No problem with recoil, very handy, easy to carry and accurate enough to kill whitetails at 100 yds. Bought one in SS as it is my truck gun, sometimes doesn't get looked at for a couple of weeks, fits in truck vault with a Ruger SS 10-22.

I have a 16" SS and it does get my attention after a few rounds of my hunting loads off the bench. Not so bad when shooting field positions.
I think it is mainly due to the light weight and poor stock angle which I have been meaning to fix.
For trigger time nothing beats a case full of trail boss under a 250gn xtp, feels like a 243 with that load.
Mine seems to like 240xtp mags over H110 unfortunately I have 6 years to make it like Barnes 250 XPB or some other lead free equivalent due to our location.
I only shoot casull length cartridges in it due to the scrubbing that would be necessary after a box 45LC, been down that road and it is a lot easier to clean out a revolver cylinder compared to a 92 chamber. Dont have and never plan on buying a flexible chamber brush.
There are good loads out there for the 454 and 16-20" of barrel I beleive bring it to full potential. In hindsight I think the 20" is a better barrel length for this round just due to the increased sight radius. And I think the Pumas in that length are already drilled and tapped for a scout scope rail.

If you haven't already picked it up hurry back it may be gone.

Bet those suckers do kick. Can't imagine a full house .454 in a light carbine doing otherwise.

Anyone wonder why you don't see a .454, '94 Marlin? The '92 design by JMB is a lot stronger than a '94 Marlin.

I have pictures on my computer of 1895, 45-70 Marlins, blow all to pieces. Ever see a blown up 1886, .45-70, another JMB design?

I like Marlins, especially the pre-safety ones, just realize they're not as strong as JMB designed Winchesters/clones.
