Got a buddy wanting to order a Benchmark Barrel for McMillan Hunter stock.

McMillan says stock will not accept a barrel with a shank longer than 1.5".

Benchmark does not provide their BBl. contours on their website.

I told him to call or email McMillan and Benchmark and see what they recommend. He wanted something with a muzzle diameter of around 6.25, but didn't want to get into a custom profile.

Wondering if anyone on here has dropped one of these barrels in a McMillan Hunter and what contour did they use.

Thanks

Benchmark can dupe about any contour you'd like. Call them and tell them what you want. Find the barrel contour you want from Lilja, Brux, Pac Nor, etc. and order that contour.

Call Benchmark, they'll help.

The last four I've ordered from Benchmark have been a Remington Mountain Rifle dupe, a Pac Nor #1 dupe, a Lilja #1 dupe and a Savage sporter dupe.

They've all been right on the money.

But they will do small contour SS. Minimum .150" a side at muzzle (give or take)...

i was looking at benchmark barrels from thirdgenerationshootingsupplies.com as they have some in stock benchmark told me they are kreiger tapers but the shank length is going to depend on what you want it to be and the diameter is either 1.250 or 1.200 in my experience

Couldn't whoever is doing the gunsmithing just cut the shank to a specified length?

Pretty much what I was just going to say. When you order the Mcmillan stock you select what shank inlet you want no longer than 1.5" for the hunter. I'd order 1"-1.25".

When you order a barrel it comes with extra shank. The gunsmith cuts off the excess shank to fit the shank length that you have your stock inletted for.

and order a #3 if you want around a .625 muzzle diameter. #2 if you want it a little lighter.

I guess so MM.

It's a barreled action he's buying from NWA, but didn't know what bbl. profile to request since there was no data on benchmark contours and that's the bbl they use.

Thanks all.

He can call NWA and request the shank length.

Aalf, they don't give it for Rem. contours.

Because there is no shank length on a Rem barrel, it starts tapering from the get go.

How did this happen? Don't you socialists have a fed program to prevent stuff like this from happening?

smile

Tell NWA you want the exposed shank to measure 1.25" and be done with it. Its best to only go 1.25" as I have two of those stocks one, 1.20" one 1.30" and they both rock.

Be more careful who you screw with.
