Has anyone else had problems with the cartidge sticking in the rifle barrel of a Savage 24 and solved it? I have a Savage 24 in 222 over a 20gauge magnum where the rifle cartidge sticks in the chamber.

Thanks for the answer, but I had a gunsmith polish the chamber, but the spent cartridges still stick.

Hand loads or factory? If Factory do you have problems with all brands or just one? Do the fired brass have any unusual marks on them?

Polish the extractor lightly and oil it. The 219 single shot 30-30s are the same way if they are dry.

check the extractor pin --if its worn it may not be catching the cartridge

I don't seem to have any problems if I use a small base die to resize my brass, but I would prefer to use fireformed, necksized brass to get as much consistency as possible. Thanks for all the answers. If anyone else has any other suggestions, I would appreciate it.

Neck-sizing brass in a Savage 24 will not give you a measurable increase in precision/accuracy. And the break-action designs don't take well to neck-sizing. In this case you're best of FL-sizing and adjusting the die so that you're just bumping the shoulder back slightly. More precisely, use feeler gauges to determine the barrel to frame gap and set your headspace on the shoulder rather than the rim. Don't know what to tell you about extraction issues - I've never had any.

Remove the extractor and clean all aspects. Try some graphite instead of grease/oil. Worked for me on a .30-30/20 Ga.
