https://www.24hourcampfire.com/ubbth...991/Re_7x57_vs_7_08_model_70#Post8343991This is a classic SA opened up as described above. It needed very little work on the back of the feed rails, but this is a 7x57 not the 284 case. One piece of advice I can offer is that for such a conversion, the later model classic or an FN with the 0.25" longer port (I think the change was around the WSM intro) is more desirable than the early action I used as it makes loading easier and it will eject loaded rounds better

My 6.5-284 is on a LA, but it started life as a SA (.243). It's not that hard to make a LA out of a M-70 SA, by changing out the bolt stop, ejector and knocking out the box mag spacer. And, of course, coming up with a different mag follower. For the wider .284 case, the follower needs to be for that round, anyway.
Mine feeds great. It's a pre-64 and has been blueprinted and fitted with Bordens Bumps.
DF You can not make a long action out of a short action. You can take the cok block stuff out of a long action. Your action was a long action to begin with. It was not a short turned into a long. My friend has a short action 243. It's a real short action that can't be turned into a long....unless you have a action stretcher. He also has a 257 Roberts that's on a long action. It has the cok block stuff in it but is still a long action.

My M-70 is pre-64.
That's the way it was back then, same action for short and long rounds, different ejector, bolt stop and box mag set up.
My references were from my pre-64 experiences. I should have made that clearer.
