never cared for throwing squirrels in my game bag, i always just cut a small pencil diameter stick and make a slit on a hind foot to hang them up so as to have a handle for easy packing.

how do you guys usually pack them out? game bag, custom carry pins, or something else? think i saw on here someone had made a nice looking carry setup, believe that will one of my winter projects this year.

stick always breaks after i string several up...anyone tried anything different?

I've done the same as you with the stick thingy for years, especially in warm weather. A couple of yrs. ago, a guy in southern Indiana sent me a squirrel carrier. It's basically part of a metal fish stringer, attached to a piece of dowel rod. I liked it so much, I made one for my son.





That's it attached to the squirrel on the table.

It's easier to carry than the stick, and will handle several.


When the weather gets colder, I use a vest, not to just carry squirrels, but to also carry my camera, bottle of water, candy bars, etc.

I remember you posting that device before. I need to make me one.

I just tie them by the rear feet to the pack, and usually skin and clean em during lulls in the action. Salt them and put them in a plastic bag when it's warm.

Ella, it sure won't cost you much, especially if ya got an old fish stringer around!

Long time ago I bought one of those bags that newspaper boys carried papers in, and dyed it green. You can put them in the front and back and keep the load balanced. You can carry a lot without too much effort. I doubt that you can still get them. miles

I followed Maddogs plans for the squirrel stringer except I made mine from a set of deer antlers. I have gotten a lot of comments from those who have seen it. It looks good and works really well.

I cannibalized an old stringer last night and made a couple with a hook to hang off a pack. Hope to have some field pics in the next couple days. I'm headed to our annual backpacking mobile winter squirrel camp in NC....

That bag would work great in October. You could haul walnuts and squirrels in one bag.

I had a bag like that that was a camo pattern, but I laid it down and never could find it.

You could use one of those haulers that us duck guys use

I have used the stick through the leg method for years as a kid. I don't care as much for it now. It will get your lower pant leg bloody. Then you when you jump in the truck you end up smearing that on the truck seat and making a mess.

I use a large laundry bag safety pin.

I used a stick pushed thru one of the squirrels hind feet, then stick pushed down in to back pocket for years. Then Arkansas(where I hunted) made open carry of small game illegal(safety reasons).

Or invite quiet folk to tag along. Hint it works for big game aswell.

Years ago, I snatched one of the Wife's little mesh laundry bags. The kind that has a zipper.
I put the squirrels in that, and use a NiteIze Carabiner to attach it to my day pack.

Just nip the hook off about 1/8" or so up then pinch together. Now is the tricky part.Would be nice a 4 or so inch chunck of the neibers garden hose to use as a handle Grin

How did that happen.

I've always just stuck them in my game pouch.
