Just how hard is it to find components today?
How about an 8 pound can of 4831 SC, how much would I expect to pay, and how had would it be to find?

I have not seen anything bigger than a pound in a long, long time.

Haven't bought powder in ages, but last time I looked, it was going for about $30/pound in 1-lb cans.

I found five pounds of RL 19 in the classified this morning for $120. Jumped on it quick.

You'll most likely find H4831 before the SC version. Popular stuff is still in short supply, at least around here. You'll also likely not be able to buy a large amount at a time either.

How about an 8 pound can of 4831 SC, how much would I expect to pay, and how had would it be to find? I've seen 4831SC available in one pound canisters locally for $25. Right now there is none available. It appears like shops take delivery of Hodgdon powders aprox every 6~8 weeks.

You might have a better chance of winning the Mega million lottery then finding a 8 lb. H4831sc, at least someone wins the lottery once in awhile. In this part of the world Hodgdon powder is as common as unicorns and honest politicians!

Lucked into 5 lb jug of RL-15 and an 8 lber of Varget last week at pre-panic pricing. The Varget was about a lb shy but the price reflected that. A local guy had bought out a pawn shop and was selling off the inventory. I have yet to pay $20/lb and have a decent stock, at my age that may be enough.

I was looking at shelves full of gun powder this past week. No, they didn't have the most popular brands, those were sold out, but a person could easily get by if they're willing to settle for what was available. PM me for the location if you're in Minnesota and willing to drive.
Your best bet if you need powder is to stop looking in metro areas and get out to the smaller sporting goods stores and gun shops in the hinterland.

totally dependent on where you are located.
My suggestion, start shopping, that will answer your question.

I have found pretty much every thing that I have needed spending far to much time on the internet to do it. Hopefully the days of walking into your local gun shop and getting it off the shelf comes back soon.

I haven't had any problems finding powder. But, then, I don't wait until I'm totally out to start looking.

You can find powder if you're willing to wait a bit & jump on it when you see it. The local sportsmans whorehouse had H4831SC at $24 a lb. the other day. I don't use it but I could have had as much as I needed. I wouldn't pay beggers prices for powder, the key is to not let yourself get in a situation where you have to have it right now.

Purchased two of the 1-lb. containers of H4831sc last week at Scheels in Appleton WI. Got matching lot #'s to boot.
I use this with 180 grain bullets in 30-06. Hodgdons website reports that 60grains of H4831sc with a 180 grain Sierra Pro-Hunter bullet yields only 44,300 CUP with good velocity. I think the velocity was 2700+fps.

Last time I was at the right place at the right time, was in a Sportsman's Warehouse... they had an 8 lb keg of 3031 and one of 4064, plus a bunch of single cans.. told me a customer could only buy one of each skew...so I bought both of the 8lb'ers... with a military discount and a $40 gift card on a refund I had in my wallet for the last year or more... I was out the door for under $290... was in Oregon so no sales tax...

I knew this would happen so I stocked up on primers and powder. I did run out of 40 cal 165 gr bullets so I cast 500 SWC and Moly them so I am good to go.
