I just bought one of the Series II Sporters in wood and blue and two boxes of the WBY factory Barnes rounds.
Anyone here using that combo and taken a read on the chrono?
Thanks, 1B
PS It is a 257 WBY. Sorry for the halfziemers mistake.

Never shot factory loads but I get 3,640ft/s out of my Vanguard Sub-MOA using RL22 and 100gr TTSX.

I find it hard to believe you didn't check this out before the purchase....:-) lots on internet info on the 257 Wby This article shows the factory 100 grain soft point at 3549..Can't see the Barnes load being much different. http://www.shootingtimes.com/2011/01/04/ammunition_st257weatherbymagnum_031706/

rembo,
I didn't even know the 100 gr Triple Shocks were available in 257 WBY factory rounds til I saw them in the store. The last 257 WBY I had was so long ago that commercial round was not made -- strictly a hand-loading option then.
I have a bunch of .25 triple shocks from that earlier era with the blue coatings and rings that WBY put on sale awhile back. I'll be trying them out too in the Vanguard.
I never not get that rifle -- a WBY LTWT with a 26" fluted barrel-- to group no matter what I used. Traded it for a Ruger #1 I wanted more. It later turned out that the factory said it was a substandard barrel and replaced it.
By the way, thanks for the great article.

That combo should be awsome on Antelope, deer etc. and should chrono at 3500+, but you need to start loading for this round as with R-22 and others you can best that velocity by a good 150-200fps.
You have a great rifle/load combo, good luck and good hunting!

Just rechecked the numbers I used in the earlier post. The article in the February 2013 Shooting Times Long Range Shooting pub actually say 3586 fps; 3" inches high at 100 yards; 4" high at 200, near dead on at 300; 6" low at 4000. My short term recall was off.

Just came across an article in the February 2013 Shooting Times Long Range Shooting pub that directly addresses the 100 TSX factory round use in my new rifle. A few details --3586 fps; 3"iches high at 100 yards; 2 " high at 200, dead on at 300; 4" low at 4000.
1B And now you see why it is so very popular, and gaining fans all the time. Bump up the speed AND the BC by handloading Moly coated 100gr TTSX 100's to 3800fps, the 3 inches high at 100 sight in puts you almost perfectly dead on at 400. As well, the bullet is still carrying a LOT of poop and power at 400, resulting in very quick kills with a decent shot placement.

1B Sure hope the Vanguard .257 Wby that Santa brought shoots this well. Gotta love only 4" of drop at 4000 yds.
