Many years ago (1999) I had delusions about shooting in the "Sportsmans Challenge" and set forth building a suitable practice rifle, the SS 10/22 Ruger Boat Paddle you see here. The project never got off the ground, my team mates didn't follow through, so all I had to show for the project was a pretty cool rifle. It has had the trigger done professionally by a good local 'smith (meaning I didn't hack it myself) and wears a competition mag release. I shot it as a plinker for a while, but rimfires are not my thang. And so it sat until today in the back of the gun cabinet. And now it can be yours for $400.00 + shipping, which normally runs $50.00 through my dealer.

What is the trigger like now? Did he put parts in it or just work on the factory?

It's the original factory trigger. He disassembled it, and did the trigger work using a Power Custom fixture. He also replaced the springs. It has also had an overtravel screw added. The work made a remarkable difference in trigger pull.
You can't really see it, but the stock is kind of unusual, it's the skeletonized stock with "Ruger" cast into it. Ruger guys refer to it as a "paddle" stock, or a "boat paddle" stock for some reason. This also the earlier 10/22, and had a cast metal trigger housing, not friggin' plastic like todays versions do.

I have a minty boat paddle 10/22 just like that. I love that little gun. The stock is tough.

I guess they're not as rare as I'd presumed. I have one too, but mine's not stainless. BUMP for a great little .22!! DMc

The blued ones were sold through mass merchandisers like WalMart & K Mart IIRC, but the SS guns went through the normal dealer channels. I see differing stories on this.

I'm guessing the buttstock portion is solid, but the buttplate doesn't appear to be easily removed, so I really don't have a straight answer for you. It doesn't appear to be hollow, there really isn't much room for an air pocket.

They are solid Zytel. I have one in a stainless 22-250. Yes, I know that. Are you sure that the rimfire stocks are built the same? None of the centerfires had checkering, and I was under the impression that solid Zytel did not take checkering in the mold.

Id give you 225 for it if you're interested. Thank you for your offer, but I'll have to pass. You can't even buy a used blue WalMart cheapie for $225.00 anymore. Bob

How many rounds have been fired through this gun Easily under 500 rounds. I took my kids out with it, and they each fired a couple of mags through it, then wanted to shoot something more powerful and interesting. They did however appreciate the 32-20 Marlin I brought a long that day.
