I picked up that 7x57AI this morning. It appears to be well put together, the onky name i can find is on the bArrel and that is C. hottenstein. A google search turns up a Carl Hottenstein, gunsmith, Richland Pa. Has anyone wver heard of this maker?

I'm neither Ken nor ingwe sir, but thanks for sharing the photos of your latest rifle with us.

While I've not heard of the maker, whomever did the checkering was a pretty fair hand at it - and then some.

I don't mind the color and grain of the stock either, but again from the photos, the checkering is superb. cool

Thanks again for sharing and good luck with your rifle.

Regards,
Dwayne

Thank you Dwayne, i have a suspicion from what I've dug up was that the barrel maker was pretty heavily involved in benchrest building. But nothing further than that as of yet

Here are a couple more photos

I believe the wing safety is going to get replaced. And i would love to know more about the action specifically. That I have been told it is a mexican Mauser action. But the bottom metal says Germany. And is that military bottom metal or after market

I don't know anything about the maker but, you do have a very nice rifle.

Ken, yes it is.

Joe: i tracked the maker down tonight and he remembered the customer who had it built but would have to see the rifle in order to remember it. He was able to answer a few questions that I had.

Plus your 22-6mm

I am thinking it needs a trader keith's canvas sling.

Thanks BD. i'm looking forward to getting it set up. I would love to put a Conquest on it. But I think it definitely needs one of those canvas slings

It's hard to say. The barrel has a light band of surface rust like it was in a barrel rack with fabric. But it looks as if some 4 ought steel wool will take care ok
