One of the new states should be named "Welfare".

Theres nothing like a guy with a few million bucks to lend instant credibility to a previously penny-ante movement to split up the state of California.

Venture capitalist Tim Draper of Silicon Valley has filed paperwork for a November ballot measure that would divide California into six states, calling the Golden State as presently constituted too big and bloated.

Six Californias is an opportunity, an opportunity for Californians to get a fresh start, an opportunity for Californians to build new platforms for growth and prosperity, Mr. Draper said at a Dec. 23 live-streamed press conference. An opportunity to be awesome.

Mr. Drapers involvement was an unexpected Christmas present for Mark Baird and Liz Bowen, who live near the Oregon border and help lead a group that has been working to split off Californias northernmost counties into a 51st state called Jefferson.

Mr. Drapers proposed six states are called, from north to south: Jefferson, North California, Silicon Valley, Central California, West California, and South California. His money will be needed: Proponents need to collect 1 million signatures just to get the idea on the ballot this fall.

All we need to finish off this country is ten more liberal Senators.

Not a problem, the Bay Area can afford to buy the north's water, and sorry to tell you that those who live in the northern reaches of the state will be living in poverty. Now SoCal will be up the creek without the bay area's tax dollars feeding all the Mexicans down south, and no water to boot.
If they ever split the state in half, those who get the Bay Area and Silicon Valley win.

Actually, it would be the only thing to save the folks from the north from poverty. There would be great recreational development and Jefferson would be much more like Idaho, Wyoming and Montana than the poverty stricken, pot growing, meth producing area it is today.

How many liberal Senators would depend on how the state is divided up - Orange County, San Diego, San Bernardino and Riverside are pretty Republican/conservative. Combine those into "Southern CA" and you get 2 more conservative Senators. Combining LA, Ventura, Santa Barbara, etc would be 2 liberals. Central Valley would be conservative as it is a lot of farmland. Far northern CA would definitely be Republican/conservative. Of course, wherever San Francisco lands would be liberal. It would be possible to end up with 6 more conservative Senators...

It all depends on how the lines are drawn. CA is like the rest of the country - the big populous cities are liberal and outnumber the conservatives who are in the outer areas; thus the libs control the elections. Get the more rural areas separated from those cities...

We'd only wind up with 10 more libturd Senators in congress. They would never again lose control of the Senate.

California breakup? Never happen. It would herald the Balkanization of the (former) USA. If it would succeed, how many pother states would split?

You won't get Liberal Senators from Jefferson. We should reduce the size of all western states to break up the influence of the liberal northeast,

New York would be next, Chicago and Philly might also get split off from their respective states.

Another thing to contemplate is how this would effect the electoral college.
