I will be picking up a Kimber Montana in .257 Roberts and I am trying to decide on a scope for it. I will use this rifle for mostly mule dear hunting in the mountains of New Mexico and hopefully antelope hunting in the valleys. Any suggestions appreciated.

The Leupold 2.5-8x36 would be my first choice.

I have a select classic Roberts, the old 2.5-8 x 36 Conquest in Talley LW mounts has been on it since day one. I wish it were a 42 at times and a bit brighter but that is all. The parallax for this scope is set for 100 yards. I don't know about the leupold parallax setting.

Suggest you go with something light. Nothing screws up the handling of a nice light rifle quicker that putting megaglass on it. My wife's Super America in 308 wears a Leupold Compact 7-2. I think they make a compact 3-9 also, either of those would be my pick but I aint you.

I am continually astounded at how quickly people make up their minds on little evidence or none at all.

The 2.5-8X36 is a very good choice. The VX-2 in a 2-7X is only about 1 oz lighter, but over $100 less. I'm not convinced the VX-3 is $100 better. Either of those.

I'd toss the Leupy 6x36 in with those two for consideration as well...

Thank you for all the input. I was thinking along those same lines. I have been really considering the light weight 2-7 leupold or getting another 2.5-8 Vari-x or VX. Thank you all again for confirming my thoughts.
