Am asking this on Big Bores also - do those cylinder that you insert in your buttstock, mercury et. etc, actually reduce recoil in addition to their simply adding some weight to your gun? Have always wondered.

I have known a lot of shotgunners that swear by them, but IMHO they will do little for you on a rifle other than add weight.

<br>If you are really looking for recoil reduction, you need Magnaporting or a similar muzzle brake. Think carefully before getting any brake system - they are LOUD!. If you do want a break, look around before you buy. There are some out there that can be turned off or removed prior to hunting, which is a lot easier on your ears. [Linked Image]

Miki, rather than going to the expense of inserting mercury into your buttstock, why not use the same hole and just pour in molten lead (wheelweights). Same mechanics, same hole in the stock, less cost.

DBBill, my dad did this moulton lead several times to his guns that kicked too hard. You just have to make sure you don't drill a hole that is too close to the surface. The wood does smoulder a bit but it never did burn through. Kind of reminds one of a campfire !
