Shot a nice mule deer with the same bullet out of a 7mm-08. No reason to believe that bullet wouldn't work as well from a 280. Go out and buy a couple hundred and work up a load. Once you found the sweet spot go hunting and forget about it.

They kill great in the .270 Win.
The 280 is no different.
Get some H4831, and CCI 200's to go along with them.

'Come on now, you didn't mean that You caught me, I was trying to be nice. The low pressure specs on the .280 must be real frustrating for the guy who load for it, kind of like the 7x57. Besides, that .07" difference in bullet diameter must at least double the ballistic coefficient on the same weight .270 Win bullets. Yep, the OP really needs to do a rebarrel to a .270 Winchester.

Don't ever waste a good .280 barrel by tossing it in favor of the mundane...

I used them in a 280AI and they worked just fine on deer.

Have used them in my 7x57Axkley Improved for the last 20 years and killed a train car load of Texas whitetails. Most the larger s.Texas variety of which a couple hovered around 200lbs. I even use a 280 load of 56.0gr of RL19. powdr

Shot triple digits with that combination. Works very well indeed
