My 1 year old GSP lost 10 lbs over the past week and she was just diagnosed with Addison's Disease. Anyone have a dog that has/had this disease. What challenges does she face?
Thanks
Addison's Disease is the opposite Cushing's Disease and most people familiar with Addison's are so because the veterinary industry often puts dogs in an overdose treatment to break the cushing's and convert it to Addison's simply because for them, it is easier to treat.
Addison's requires 4-6 weekly visits and blood work to test electrolytes with corresponding injections to balance.
Addison dogs have this for live and have to be monitored closely for symptoms and prevented from being exposed to stress.
Depending on the amount blood work, the cost is roughly $200-300 per visit. We had the perfect dog so paid this for the last 2.5 years of her 12.5 years with us.
Hope this helps.
