Hey guys, I have a model 70FWT in .308 that I think needs re-barreled. It is a mid 80's model. It was stored in a closet that the roof leaked into for God knows how long. I took it to a local "gunsmith" over a year ago and he hasn't even started anything on it. The barrel is pitted, even the crown. Who are some good gunsmith's in the Midwest that could or would take on this project? I was hoping to take this rifle on an elk hunt in 2014. The rifle used to shoot 150 grain bullets fairly well, 165's ok and 180's not worth a crap. Is this normal for a lightweight barrel? Thanks

I would not spend much time or money on a P.F. M70 unless it has a special stock or some sentimental value..

Scrub the barrel and clean it's crown and see how it shoots. If it does not shoot well just sell it as it is.

Send it to Redneck. You will be pleased with the price, workmanship, communication, and speed.

And a push feed is absolutely worth rebarreling.

And hurry up if you need to order a barrel--turnaround time isn't quick normally!

Another good alternative would be to send it straight to Douglas Barrels. They have a reasonable price for put on a new barrel and bluing, all ready to go.

PF M-70 is an under appreciated sleeper.
