Nosler Ballistic tips were made for deer.
I'd start with 140gr NBT H4831(sc) CCI 200
In a modern bolt action rifle I'd work up to around 59gr.

Pretty much any 139-145 gr bullet. I'd start with IMR4831. But there are lots of powders in that burning rate range if your rifle doesn't like that one.

+ 1 on what the first two gentlemen said.
I've reloaded for about a dozen .280s over the last 37 years and prefer bullet weights of 139 to 154 grains for deer-sized animals.
I also prefer IMR-4831 over any other powder for those particular bullet weights.
Keep your gun-hand ready and your eyes peeled.

Mine likes 55gr of RL19 and 140 Accubonds. Does a good job on whitetails.

Mine shoots 56gr. of RL19, Win LR, and 140 BST, into one hole. My son's .280 does almost as well with the same load.

Ken a friend says the same thing about the LRX. Can you give us some details? What have you killed with it?
The 280 Remington is overbore.
The 7 Rem Mag is over bore.

In mine I mainly use the 150gr NBT and 150gr Partition on top of H4831 or RL22. My rifle prefers 150 grain Nosler offerings.

At 280 velocities, the 150 NBT may hold together at shorter range than the 140 NBT?...at least that's my theory, after using the 140s years ago. I've got 150s to try in a x57, to see for sure. The 150 gives up nothing and does better at LR, so it appears to be a win/win....IF your rifle will shoot them. Inside of 600 yards, it's probably all the bullet I'd ever need for any of my 7mms... 280, 7x57, or 7-08. I'm just getting back into rolling my own, so I'm following advice hereabouts (on loads), as well. Good luck.

H4350 and the vintage 160 grain Barnes XLC is magic in my gun.

Each rifle is different but my 280 liked the 150 Partition better than the 140 BT. It likes the 139 Hornady BTSP best of all with IMR 4350 and that bullet has performed well from 20yds to 315yds.

139sst 59 grains H4831sc This was a load Mule Deer put me onto. Shoots under an inch and has taken many hogs. Suspect it would work well on deer too.
Experience is something you get, just after you needed it.

My favorite load for my .280 is the 175 gr NPT with 57.5 gr of H450. They loaf along about 2750 to 2800 fps and penetrate great.

My .280, with IMR4350 and 140 gr. Nosler Accubonds and Barnes TSX bullets, performs wonderfully on whitetail does.
