1000 made and in 300 Savage sounds like the 50th Anniversary rifle, but it didn't have a Savage emblem on the stock. Big one on the bottom metal though. Gold plated trigger and inlaid gold etching with fancy wood and custom case, they originally retailed for $1300'ish. Only recent one that sold on gunbroker went for $700.
“ The Savage 99 Pocket Reference”. All models and variations of 1895’s, 1899’s and 99’s covered. Also dates, checkering, engraving.. Find at www.savagelevers.com

Back in the mid to late 1980s, Savage made a limited run of non-cataloged 110s in 300 Savage with the Savage logo laser-etched into the right side of the stocks. They came with a fixed blade knife that might have had the Savage logo laser-etched on the blade. I owned one of the rifles, SN H00025x, that I bought used and didn't get the knife. It is the only one of them that I've ever seen.
I have a couple of the laser-etched stocks that were rejected.
As far as price goes, I have a 110 in 300 Savage that is in excellent condition and would sell it for $450 F2F, but it doesn't have the laser-etched stock.

Jeff I'd be interested in seeing pictures of it! Would you be able to email a photo or two to me?

Jeff, appreciate the info on those uncatalogued 110's. Any idea if it was a special run for somebody - like Grice does nowadays?

Cabela's in Wheeling has had one of the anniversary 110's in the Gun Library for quite awhile. Priced at $1300. Nice looking rifle if you like bling. Not my tastes or price range.

Rory,
I don't know if it was a special run made for a specific wholesaler or if somebody at Savage made them on a whim, nor do I know what year they were made. I got mine sometime between 1987 and 1990, as new/no box/no knife.

That is the beast!
The laser etching was pretty deep and looked like it might collect a lot of "stuff".

Yes, it does look like that etching would hold stuff you may not want held....but if it were mine, I would have changed the stock and hunted with the replacement stock.

I picked up a 110 WLE in 250-3000 in 2005 for $435 new in the box. 1 out of 10000. It is Tack Driver, however the bore lands seem to copper up quickly after 15 rounds and the group will open up from 3/8" to 1". Clean out the copper and it is back shooting one hole groups. I Tried polishing the bore with lapping compound and a cotton patch around a brush on the end of my cleaning rod. I thinked it helped a little but still seems to attract to much copper.

A friend of mine bought a lower end Savage "tactical" rifle in 308. To shoot a 150 into a deer he'd have needed to load the cartridge with a 180. When we cleaned it with JB, the gunk that came out looked like copper base never seize compound.

"SN H00025x" Must have been a special serial range at the time. I wonder what they will do/did when they reach that serial range during normal production? Another item to mess with the collectors mind sometime in the future.
