On my way up north for fishing, I found a couple of the 336y, the youth model. Marlin's catalog says that these are blued but neither of these are blued. The finish reminded me of the finish on Remington express models. I was not impressed. When I saw the first, I thought maybe it was used and somebody had refinished it. I found another and it was the same way.

ya that seems to be what passes for bluing on marlin these days. that and cheesy laminate stocks. hopefully they will get back to real blue and walnut again one of these days.

Yep, it's a crying shame what has happened to a once great company. I talked to one of the Remington reps the other day and you should have heard the excuses and back-peddling....

Marlin is trying to keep a low price, like the Express. We've sold a bunch of the 336Y with no problems.Could it be better, yes but it's still a serviceable firearm for what your paying, like the Express.JM offered the model for a few years with a walnut stock and a blue finish,a very nice rifle.
