I am on another site --fly fishing stuff -- that has an icon that allows you to copy photos directly from your batch stored in your computer. So slick! Works like charm.
Is it prohibitive in some way here?
A card-carrying cyber cluff, I confess I have never been able to make an intermediating photo service -- read Photobucket -- work for me. So I depend on the kindness of others here who can.

Photobucket is pretty simple. Bring up your picture, click on the link which is the part in the little white box to the right where it reads IMG, it'll flash "copied", come to the reply screen, right click & paste. That's about all there is to it.

24hr doesn't store photos. It just links to photos stored elsewhere on the web. There's no place on here to copy them to from a computer. Photos take a huge amount of disk space and with all the photos that are posted here, it would greatly increase the space necessary to run the board.

I once figured out the way to post from your hard drive directly into the campfire. Promptly forgot how. Still can't duplicate that. darn.

Since the board only links, not stores, as soon as you shut off your computer the pic would fail to appear. Before I figured it out, I tried to link photos from gmail. They worked just fine as long as I had my email open. When I signed off, they disappeared from the board as the link was broken.

That option has always existed here as well, but there's a size limit when you do it that way, i.e., you have to shrink your pictures down in size first. It's all handled via the "File Manager."

So tell me why the 'fire will not allow me to post photos from Shutterfly, my photo host. Even when I have the photos at a small size. Will allow me to post the same photos from my web site. Hmmm Maybe time to go figure. From Shutterfly: Same photo from my site:

The pic from your site is. Maybe that is the issue? Kaiser Norton

Rock Chuck, the campfire will accept pictures, but they've imposed a small size limit on anything to be uploaded. Reason, I'm sure, is to keep the server from starting to bloat due to gigabytes and gigabytes of uploaded pics. Cabriolet, the reason your shutterfly pic won't post is because the URL doesn't end in .JPG or .PNG or .GIF. Take the URL and trim the end off and it should work. So make: http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47a1da09b3127ccefcad21db8de700000060O02QZsmjZw5aA9vPgw/cC/f%3D0/ls%3D00400980642320110428103239096.JPG/ps%3D50/r%3D0/rx%3D550/ry%3D400/ Into: http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47a1da09b3127ccefcad21db8de700000060O02QZsmjZw5aA9vPgw/cC/f%3D0/ls%3D00400980642320110428103239096.JPG And throw in the [img] [/img] and you get - a thumbnail. Odd.

The link to shutterfly works. I deleted the code after jpg and it links the pic. Quote this and you can see the abbreviated code used to display the pic. So tell me why the 'fire will not allow me to post photos from Shutterfly, my photo host. Even when I have the photos at a small size. Will allow me to post the same photos from my web site. Hmmm Maybe time to go figure. From Shutterfly: Same photo from my site:

And throw in the [img] [/img] and you get - a thumbnail. Odd. Googled a bit and found the answer for shutterfly just showing a thumbnail. Shutterfly is NOT a picture hosting site exactly like photobucket/flickr/picasa. They are a site organized around storing and ordering photos/photo books/etc, so they don't make full sized pictures easily available to the public. So, using shutterfly is going to be a pain compared to most of the other photo hosting sites. On the other hand, shutterfly probably protects your pictures better than other sites.

Funny thing I am able to post direct from Sutterfly onto the Accurate Reloading site withut trimming the extra Shutterfly code.
Different strokes for different website folks I guess.

The software running this site does require that the picture link end with the .JPG/.GIF/.PNG/etc, which not all sites require. Can be a pain on hosting sites which require trailing crap on the URL (Cabela's used gun pictures also have the trailing stuff and so can't display them, for example).

The short answer I guess is NO. No speaka da cyber talk. Photobucket is dead to me despite numerous attempts, including with the assistance of adepts at that black art.
All I can tell you is the other sight has a readily accessible icon I click on to access my pictures and transfer them to my posts in two clicks. The site by the way is picture heavy including videos.

Hard drives are so inexpensive now that the "huge amount of disk space" is not a valid justification anymore. PC hard drives are cheap. Fiber attached drives in a SAN are not. In addition to the cost, more data = more cost for backup and more I/O required and bandwidth used. It's not as simple as slapping a bigger hard drive in a dell PC. Especially when the exact same thing can be accomplished for free on several different photo hosts. No offense, but if people can't figure out how tonuse photo bucket, they might also struggle with sizing and uploading pics directly.

since photobucket started compressing everything it's imageshack for me, you would still have to hit the 'reply' button to see them full size
