Seems our esteemed goat herder is trying to implement a new tax. Apparently we aren't charging enough at the pumps to make the current fuel tax work. So he wants to charge you for every mile driven. Making Vermont as green as an Irish goat has netted the state a large drop in gas tax funds. Saving the planet has cost us dearly. Sheeples beware....

I am hoping my new crop of GFY bumper stickers wont impinge on anyone's copyrights here smile

So now ones odometer will be sealed and hot linked to their collection service.

Any chance the public gets to vote on that one, or is it an executive decision? Regardless, the state will come up with a way to collect more. Absolutely no one understands the concept of downsizing.

No public on this one. Never do when they really want it. As of 2015 black boxes in all new vehicles will aid this very nicely. As far as others I am going to guess our annual inspections will pick up the slack..

The whole black box thing is pretty scary too. That's a HUGE big brother moment right there. Combine it with cell phones and debit cards and your on the precipice...

If miles are not GPS determined, put bigger tires on ones rig for less RPM's (fewer revolutions/mile). One will have to compensate for error in actual speed though.

I'm just going to get another speedo for my 04.... It still hammers home how the populous who brings the most votes wont be affected nearly as much as those who cant afford to live near work or have just been driven out by property tax increases etc... On a larger scale it could be considered quite scary. Dividing even more the classes....

Maybe go everywhere in reverse, and they will owe you money?

Out here I'd also argue that the state/county does not maintain many of the roads where I put in considerable miles.

Am I correct in assuming they will leave the tax/gallon in place?

We elected socialists to make our laws. We are getting what we deserve. And they will mostly get elected again.

Which is exactly why I don't live in VT. It's my favorite state to visit and has been for years. I've shot two moose there (including my avatar). But when I had the chance to move there I just couldn't because it's a liberal/socialist wasteland as far as the gov't and the cities go. It's a state gov't that seldom ever makes sense.

^^^ THIS ^^^

All they do is spend and spend some more. To make up for the shortages their spending causes they institute new taxes.

Double taxation is what got a bayonet attached to a Charleville rifle shoved up the British's azz. Now, we are no better off for it.

Yup. So how do you stop the hoards of liberals who define the larger voting populous from re-hiring their family members?

Vermont is an amazing state run by a perpetual group of hand holding circle jerks. Our government just goes around in circles writing checks and driving out good business. It's insane. You have full blown 3 gen welfare families and rich folk. If your anywhere in the middle your forked....

So if you drive your vehicle in another state, do you have to pay taxes on the mileage in another state?

My guess they will have a similar plan as Obamacare. Complete #@$%^@ and fix it later while billing for the most....

Well, it had to start somewhere. Too bad you folks in VT elect the ones you do.

Just glad it didn't start here. Government everywhere is just too F'in big.

It was Massachusetts and NY that ruined VT. Real VT'ers are down to earth conservative people. The "flatlanders" came in in droves and wrecked the state.

+1 Mike.

I grew up right across the border in NYS and Vermont used to be my safe haven. I have more fond memories of VT than NY. Now I can't tell the difference between the two.

My guess is they need to raise more money to pay for all the "treatment" programs to straighten out all the new heroin addicts created by the liberals who don't believe people need to earn what they have to feel good about themselves.

Look at the good side. There's no reason to drive if you're not leaving the State. smile

The only thing worse than a liberal is a liberal that thinks they're a conservative.
