Does anyone know the weight of an HVA 4100/1600 action? How would the weight compare to a small ring Mauser such as a G33/40 or a BRNO 21/22 action? I don't have one at hand to weigh, so any information is appreciated.

Aluminum bottom metal or the steel unit?

Receivers and bolts are comparable. The bottom metal units on the HVA's are lighter than a g33/40 unit.

If you use aftermarket bottom metal such as Swift or Wiebe, then they would end up weighing about the same.

I had two HVA's actions this weekend but barreled them both. Can't weigh them now. Both finished up at 6.5 lbs stocked.

Well... I just happen to have an HVA action. It is not from a M-4100, but from a Husqvarna M-5000 as imported by I forgot who in Tacoma, Wa...

It has alloy bottom metal and weighs in at exactly 2.5 lbs on my certified Fed-Ex scales... Which, IIRC, is exactly the same as a Remington M-700... Hope that helps...

Addendum: That includes Weaver 2-Pc alloy bases...

Thanks for the information. That gives me some context as to the relative weights. I've always assumed that a small ring G33/40 saved roughly 3 ounces over a M98 outfitted in a similar manner with similar bottom metal. Without the aluminum bottom metal, there does not appear to be a significant weight difference between these small ring actions. I am actually not worried about the weight very much, I like the options the small ring actions provide in building a slim rifle.

Thanks for your help on this.

There isn't much weight savings on the g33/40 action itself. As you pointed out, the real advantage is you can fit a barrel with slimmer profile and still have it look right on the action. This allows you to fit a slimmer stock and end up with a light and trim package.

One of the HVA actions I barreled yesterday had a 24" barrel and weighed just under 7 lbs scoped.
