Prescott AZ, pronounced "Press-kit" by AZ residents. Confuses people.
A friend's dad growing up was always mis-pronouncing the word fathom. The worst part was, it was his favorite word. He would go on and on about what he couldn't fanthom. Hard to keep a straight face after awhile. We always found it more hilarious than irritating though. When we moved to Prescott, it was "PRESSc't." Then outsiders bulged the town bigger, and it became "PRESS-COTT," with heavy stress on the -COTT. Fathom was also a favorite word of my friend who mangled usurp and others, and of course underwent her special twist she couldn't phantom this, couldn't phantom that, couldn't phantom the other thing, etc. I got used to it after a while.

So many people now days will use the word 'dude' when addressing a female.
For the record 'Boss' is prison lingo for Sorry SOB backwards.
The most irritating 'correct' speaking that drives me nuts is Alex Trebic pronouncing things. Ghetto and Hillbilly is many times less annoying than that stuff. I don't watch a lot of Jeopardy due to timing but when I do he always pulls at least one SOB out of me.

that I have a pet peeve lurking.
Got a phone call from a guy that was inquiring about the Cerakoting but he pronounced it Creocoating and it took several tries to get him to understand that he was mispronouncing it.
When he finally grasped that fact he would ask a question and upon hearing the answer to each question he would respond with "Gotcha!" After a hearing "Gotcha!" for a few minutes I realized how irritating it was. Couldn't wait to get off the phone.
He was an automotive paint salesman and I suspect he was trying to find out if he wanted to start doing Cerakoting. I can never understand what these idiots from the north are saying. Travis I cain't neither.

I sold guns and optics for years. Trust me when I tell you not to try and understand Swarovski customers.
Or for that matter Leupold ( Lee-up-hold)
I have also heard, frequently I'm afraid, of Hog-a-don gunpowder, and Eye-Mister Powder ( IMR)

Beauchamp as Bo-champ instead of Bee-cham. locals here with that name pronounce it the first way. The French have some pronunciation quirks that Americans have trouble with. French words and names (I don't know of any exceptions) stress the latter or last syllable. The daughters of some of Carol Anne's friends were something like Di NEES Re NAY and Mi SHELL Jo ZETTE. Ka-LUMP Ka-LUMP and Ka-LUMP Ka-LUMP. So Beauchamp would be "Bo-SHAW[n]," with the nasal sound of "Shawn" without the terminal n pronounced. That unpronounced n just gives its nasal twang to the aw of -champs and the -mps is totally silent not sounded at all. Just don't sound natural to American ears!

Then there's BBC's Jaguar Jag-you-ar.
I prefer that to "Jag-wire" that I hear too frequently.

I live in Flag, but it comes up a lot with people who are new to AZ. I've had many a conversation that started by someone asking "So, how do you pronounce Prescott?"

The trees in my yard do not drop pee cans. When my yankee friends pronounce pe-CON that way, I tell 'em that a pee can is what my grandfather used to keep under the edge of his bed.
