Almost forgot how ugly they are!
The prolonged drought out here has cut our feral hog population to just about nothing. I am sure that there are still some around, but I haven't run into any for about nine or ten years, now.

Texas or New Mexico?
We were seeing some in the Chihuahua desert country in West Texas where there were never any before. Gives the Bears a nice option when they want a little pork.
Some escaped around Balmorhea and others I think came from the south.

"An archer sees how far he can be from a target and still hit it, a bowhunter sees how close he can get before he shoots." It is certainly easy to use that same line of thinking with firearms. -- Unknown

Gives the Bears a nice option when they want a little pork. Just about every lion that we killed over a ten year period had hog hair in their stomachs--sometimes lots of it.

I've looked at some lion dens and some seemed to specialize on Javelinas almost exclusively. I suspect they are doing their part at slowing down the Hog numbers too in W Tex. Hardly ever see a small one in areas with lots of cats.
