The pump on my custom 7600 has a lot of movement (> 1/8") fore and aft. I can see that it's due to a gap between lock up bars and slide release. Does anyone have any experience tightening up the pump on one of these? It can be noisy and probably doesn't help with accuracy, my rifle is 1 1/2-2"ish at 100yds with 2 distinct groups. Thanks, Steve

And rightfully so.

Remington's shop manual for the 760 (same gun different bolt)says .010 clearance between slide lock/release , and action bar . an eighth in. is very excessive . The person that customized it should have caught that . I have built up the end of the lock lever and then file to get proper clearance . I always get a kick out of the noise complaint . Who shakes their rifle , when hunting ? I have been hunting with Rem. pumps for 35 years or so . I've killed a lot of Deer with them , don't think I've scared any .

I know, I know, deer are deaf and I shouldn't be rattlin my pump anyway. But geez I like a nice tight gun and it can't be helping accuracy any. If it was the O-ring wear I could live with it but this is lock up movement (sort of because the lugs are engaged). Old Sap, How did you build yours up, welding it?

I don't have a shop manual for the 760, but every 760 I've seen - both in the shop and those on rifle shelves have gaps more than .010.. 1/8"+/- is what I've noted..

OK I am going to answer my own post so if someone down the road searches it they will have a solution.
The gap is acceptable as kindly pointed out when the pump is pulled back however there should be no slop in the pump because there is supposed to be a 'circle spring washer' holding it tight. The washer is part 13A in SOME blow up schematics and is missing in others!!! I found only about 1/2 the schematics I pulled up showed this part. My rifle was assembled without it. A $4.15 part, 20 min replacement and my rifle is now tight and quiet.

Ok. Anybody have a schematic that shows this part 13A that the op mentions?
