President Bush's disapproval rating stands at 64%. 61% of the population don't know the words to the Star Spangled Banner. Think there might be a connection there somewhere? Hmmmm....

I'm betting there's a lot of ovelap between those two groups.....and I just saw that some huge percentage can't find either Iraq or Louisiana on a map.

I know the words and I still am not too impressed right now, mainly on his stance on imigration. He's trying to suck up to the middle and left and pissing off his base.

I think I could still draw out the Acadiana parishes from the redneck parishes, from memory! I lived 4 years in Avoyelles parish, which actually has a little bit of redneck country (the part N of the Red River).

But did the population know the words to the Star Spangled Banner when President Bush's approval ratings were in the 90% range?

The whole approval rating thing is bs...
Put anyone, anywhere, in charge of an organization that has it's management and staff bifurcated into two factions, with each pitted against the other for control, and dedicated to opposing the other factions programs, then add in an uneducated, disinterested, and distructful shareholder body, again equally bifurcated along faction lines, and then add in a gleeful bunch of media vultures to play up all the negatives either faction does while underplaying any positives and have them poll the shareholders as to the "approval of management".
Yeah, that's a valid measure of productivity and management quality...

Have them blow deficit spending through the roof,... attack the Bill of rights,.. start an ill founded war in the Middle East which drains the nation of $10 billion a month,...see gas prices hit $3.00 a gallon on their watch,...encourage illegal immigration by pushing for amnesty for illegals,.. refer to those who volunteer to guard the Mexican border as vigilantes,... Yeah,..... the numbers are going to drop,... whether the man in charge is Republican, Democrat, or Whig.

The problem is that now the even the Republicans are developing a Brain and starting to wonder WTF "DUHBYA" is doing and for who? The whole scenario reminds me of Rome when Nero fiddled and the Empire went up in Smoke. With this Country teetering on the edge of Bankruptcy, He will not close its borders to the Riff raff from Mexico, wants to farm out Port Security to a Country with KNOWN terrorist ties, nearly 2400 of the finest we have died in war for Iraq that they change the reason for every ten minutes destroying countless families , His largest contributors RAPE the American public at will with their fuel prices with his full complicity and people wonder why his rating is Down the Crapper? High fuel prices equal high prices on everything else so we might as well throw in rampant inflation too. Not to mention the Hardships caused by $3.00 a gallon gas prices. Many now have to decide to Eat or buy fuel to get to work. Being good Refumblicans we should curse the Clintons for allowing the Chinese and Indians to run rampant on our fuel supplies AS SOON AS CLINTON LEFT OFFICE. Those Chinese and Indians must be all Democrats the way they have consumed our Oil causing this "Shortage" even though our stockpiles are the highest ever? Before this is done the Clown prince will surely break Jimmy Carters record low. He is lucky this is 2006 not 1806 or He would be wearing a coat of Tar and Feathers and ridden out of town on a Rail................Nah they wouldn't have done that, they would Hang the Idiot from the nearest tree.

The discontent of the base is real, and based mostly on immigration and spending. The discontent of the left is that Bu$Hitler stole the elction, Bush lied, people died, blah blah blah. They're never going to be happy, and that's probably 30% of the population. The middle blows with the wind---they loved Bush after Baghdad fell, now they're sick of Iraq, and since they listen to the MSM they think we're in a depression. They've forgotten about their tax cut now, they're used to it. The media tells them every day all day that Bush sucks, so when you ask them their opinion, they tend to agree.
I bet if you prefaced the question with some facts about the economy, you might get a different response. But there is no doubt that W is in a rough patch, and I don't see him fighting back like he means it. I hope Tony Snow improves things, but until the message changes on immigration and spending, Tony's putting lipstick on a pig.

Well, maybe so, but it's good to remember that, since 1971 it has been a federal offense for a corporation to give, or a campaign for federal office to accept, a single dime from a corporation.
Maybe some of the hundreds of thousands of people employed by, or the millions of people who own stock in, those evil corporations made campaign contributions to W, but the corporations themselves did not.

good article---which points out exactly what I said. And don't underestimate the clout of employee PACs---individuals donating to causes they think benefit their livelihood. Here's EXXon's employee PACs list: http://www.exxonmobil.com/Corporate/Citizenship/Imports/Political/index.htmlIf the government weren't so meddling and predatory, people wouldn't need to make contributions in self-defense, which is what happens now. Big labor, the Greens, and their democratic allies are at the throats of corporations, and so their PACs pay ransom to the GOP. If the government were reduced to its proper size and functions, nobody would care much who held office.
