I can't stand to be without a watch. I get downright itchy when I leave home without a watch on.
Phone or no, I gotta have a time piece. Lately, it has been an Invicta.

If you like it just pay the money and get it fixed. With gas fillups running nearly 100 bucks on pickups it isn't totally crazy repair costs. I agree it is too much though by twice.

I don't know a lot about watches, but I bought a Wenger stainless about 7 years ago and have beat the hell out of it. Changed the battery once and it's going strong.

What's an iPhone? My $35.00 Walmart watch is still going after probably 10 years or so. Got one too, can't be without a wrist watch. Gunner

I used to really lust for a Rolex, when I was a teen. Admire them, just like fine guns. At the time the steel ones were $250, and I had the cash, but didn't bite on it. Now, of course the steel ones are far more. But the watch that I got the most compliments on, was a $99 Fossil But I also learned Rolex, in spite of claiming their watches take a year to make, also build 800k + in a year I still admire mechanical watches, but I'm not gonna pay Rolex prices

For the most part, quartz movement watches are disposable: they have a definite lifespan. Could be 5 years, could be 15 years, but they're only good for being a fishing weight when they're done. The exception are the high-end Swiss quarts movements (think Patek Philippe, etc.), they can be repaired, but it isn't inexpensive.
I've always had a watch and always will, my current daily-wear Omega DeVille (automatic) has been a joy to own since 2011.
If you've enjoyed your Victorinox, then repair it. Otherwise, it's done.

I quit wearing a watch when I got out of the Marine Corps. When I was wearing one it was a $25 Timex, never got the attraction to expensive watches.
An $800 watch is just bling really. It's no different than somebody who drives a high end BMW or Mercedes, They won't do anything a Toyota won't do at a quarter the price, but they'll cost you a heck of a lot more to get fixed. When expensive toys break they're expensive to fix, always been that way.

Paying anything close to $350 for a quartz watch is not too smart. Google Seiko 5 and look at very good mechanical watches for less than $150.

I've had my $25 Timex for about 20 years, only need to replace the battery every couple of years.

Five years ago I spent about $350 for a Victorinox Swiss Army watch. Swiss quartz movement. Kept superb - absolutely superb - time.
A week ago, it [bleep] the bed. It wasn't the battery, and of course it's out of warranty. It went off for a repair estimate and it needs - [bleep] me - a complete overhaul for $197.
I'm about to drop $200 for a new iPhone and that's going to be my watch from now on. Screw Switzerland, and their [bleep] cuckooclock watch industry.
You think quartz is bad, try pricing a tune-up of a Swiss mechanical watch.

I agree, I can't justify paying very much for a quartz movement knowing that it's done when it dies. Yes, Seiko makes some great watches, have you seen the Grand Seiko's?? They're right up there with the Swiss watches: http://www.grand-seiko.com/collection/index.html

Well I bought a timex expedition for about 24 bucks at Wally World. The dam thing keeps better time than my Rolex or Omega ever did. I mean you set it and its spot on all the time. I like sweep second hand watches. I bought both the Rolex and Omega back in the 1970's. You can go nuts with watches. Like guns and flyrods and reels. Never mind the high end chicken necks.

at work I wear a Dakota that has a carabiner and hangs from a belt loop. Simple, out of the way of where my arms and hands are. Inexpensive.
In the field I have a Casio. Solar powered with barometer, thermometer, altimeter, stopwatch, and a few more functions. Good device, comfortable put pricy.
Both work well for the situation.
