This one has rolled over at least once so I think it is safe to post. Check it out and take a guess at its history. Another interesting rifle. http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=390471312

1926-27 K barrel with early front sight. Photos Don't show whole barrel address but probably style 5 per Murray's book since style 6 would have later sight. Probably late 1899 250-3000 originally.

Don't have my Murray's with me and don't remember this one off the top of my head. When did the 99K's go from 22" barrels in 250-3000 to 24"? Or were they always 24?

Are you guys discussing the t/d with the barrel and the "A" engraving and the 1899-250-3000 receiver by chance?

Receiver isn't engraved, but the barrel has K style engraving on it. Other than the barrel, looks like a very nice late 250-3000 to me.

By the way, i love that rifle, incorrect or not. To me, it just says understated style.

At first glance it appears to be a "G". Once you factor in the serial number, it's too early to be a "G". It's actually a late 1899-250-3000 with a barrel with A engraving. I credit this information to those with more knowledge than I, but were willing to keep me straight. Thank you very much. All this rifle is is nothing more that a shooter with parts that some want, but not $1500 worth of want.

According to Murray and the catalogs I have available the .250 K had a 22" barrel. The F and G .250's also had 22" barrels.

Also like to add that all you guys that are calling it a K barrel (not LBK) should note that the front sight is integral and not ramped.
How many front sights have you saw on K's that weren't ramped?

Here are the pics of the early F, was D&T'd so I'm guessing that's why I passed on it. More than just a few years ago, 11 is a lot higher number. Why don't I ever delete pictures?

The information I have been given is that it is an "AB" barrel.

How many front sights have you saw on K's that weren't ramped? I also called it a "K" barrel until I got home and was able to look at the listing. Only then did I start asking questions and was given a first rate education by several others. I still wouldn't mind having it, but the pictures speal for themselves. My top $$ would be considerably less than the opening bid. ESPECIALLY now that the "Savage" crack has been exposed.

"How many front sights have you saw on K's that weren't ramped? " I have one. The K started in 1926/27. -The serial is 1920. -The brl is 1927-1928 (per markings and long integral front sight) -The brl is a 24"(not standard length)"K" ("A's" did not have engraved barrels.) Maybe a leftover Model 20 brl blank? There have been other 24" 250 brl on E's, F's and G's in this time period. -The receiver ring is marked "SAVAGE MODEL 99" which was not added till ~1927. -Wood is Model 250-3000 or G depending on when the rifle was assembled. Would be nice to know the markings on the wood and the front of the receiver. -If this is a re-barreled Model 250-3000 why reheat treat it...assuming the marking on the receiver ring had to do with heat treating. The other option is that it was a leftover receiver that was not assembled till the late 20's. We have seen these before. -This would be a strange combination to sell to the general public...maybe to an employee? I like these puzzles. Keeps you thinking.
