And yet .gov confiscates enough Mexican black tar heroin each year to keep the entire southwest in a stupor. Why not re-task that stuff and keep big pharma out of the loop? We already know that .gov is already dealing with the cartels. no chit and its even actually pretty humane for the whiners.....your body just forgets to breath....

To me it isn't cruel or unusual punishment if a murderer is killed in a manner that is ANY less painful/torturous than the manner in which he/she killed his/her victims. Basically, in my opinion, the method of murder should be the only limit for the method of execution.

Why worry about "approved for human use". It's used to kill a guy, are they worried about his future health?

Mathemeticians: What's the force of a 200 lb when he hits the end of a 6' rope? Here's a chart showing the breaking strength of polyester rope in sizes up to 1". (I hate the way this board hashes charts when pasted in)

There are several substitutes for Pentothal, all available. Have your local prison contact me for the names.

Until executions can be carried out within 3 years of pronouncement, instead of the 12-20 years it now take, I suggest life without parole become the SOP.
By the time executions are carried out these days, a good many of the victims families are dead and gone or other life changes compel them to change their minds as to wanting death being carried out against the condemned.
Many condemned certainly need killing but why wait until the condemned are more likely to die of natural causes?
I'm pro death penalty but only if it occurs within a short period of time after the exhaustion of one designated appellate process specifically created to handle death penalty appeals.

Well for me, time doesn't heal all wounds. If you are supposed to die, sooner the better, but I'll be damned if I"m for something like if we can't get it done in 3 years... you don't have to die except by old age in the pen. Kill em and don't house em for the rest of their lives...

Who has the title to Devil's Island these days...? That or maybe some god forsaken, shark surrounded dot of land in the Pacific. Dump'em off with a tent and some seeds and a "have a nice rest of your life".

The successful work of the "Innocence Project" somewhat has me a bit leery of the ultimate punishment, as well.

I get that part of the project.... but say these days with DNA as evidence.... what are we waiting for....
And for me, hell if you give me wrongly life in prison, you may as well kill me. I'm not going to have a good time either way, and a life in prison, well that would be worse than a needle at this point.

Bob, I mostly concur. I am not exactly pro-death penalty, but I'm not against it under the circumstances you allude to. Some folks just need killin'. But it has to be swift and merciful, in my opinion. Life in solitary confinement without parole is an extremely harsh punishment, but it's cheaper than the costs of the appeals of every death sentence.
