I prefer to think of what the USA did as 'the right thing, at the right time, for the right reasons'.

I've always wondered: what flavor was the Kool-Aid?

I screwed up my post above, here is the news release I meant to post:

6 June 2003 -- On 7 June 2003, a team of seven IAEA safeguards inspectors will begin taking an inventory and securing nuclear material at the nuclear material storage site at the Tuwaitha nuclear complex. The nuclear material - 1.8 tonnes of low enriched uranium and 500 tonnes of natural uranium - had been under IAEA seal since 1991. It was last visited by IAEA inspectors in February 2003.

The inspectors arrived in Baghdad, Friday, 6 June, on air transport provided by Coalition Forces from Kuwait City. The mission is expected to take about two weeks.

The inspections are in accordance with Iraq's safeguards agreement with the IAEA pursuant to the Nuclear Non-proliferation Treaty and are separate from the IAEA's Security Council mandate.

The inspectors will be reporting directly to IAEA headquarters in Vienna and will not be making any public statements about their findings while in Iraq.

As you can see, we had a pretty good eye on this stuff.

Ask Rumsfeld, ask Bush, ask Cheney where was the WMD in Iraq. ALL THREE have said repeatedly there was no WMD found.... I do not know where you are getting yoru info and why these "supposed" sources are in total disagreement with the official admissions by the heads of the US government on the issue of WMD not being found in Iraq after the US invasion.

I guess it all depends on your definition of WMD, which in turn depends on whether its aimed at you or not. I expect if one of those Sarin gas shells fell on Jellystone Park, old Yogi would call it a WMD.

If WMD was found why did Rumsfeld last week say admittedly there were NO WMD found and what I had said before the US invasion and occupation that---we had "suspected locations"...

But Rumsfeld admits NO WMD. So, who's right? You or him?

Also--- We had better inform the white house spokemen (past and current) and all the members of the Whitehouse of this startling revelation that there were WMD found in Iraq after the invasion. The following is a recent(less than ONE month) NEWS article that might help stop anyone else from drinking from the KoolAid pitcher:

White House defends Bush's post-invasion WMD claims
Group found Iraqi trailers to be non-WMD related, paper says

Wednesday, April 12, 2006; Posted: 10:53 p.m. EDT (02:53 GMT)

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The White House on Wednesday reacted angrily to a report that President Bush had cited trailers suspected as biological weapons labs as proof of the presence of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq after intelligence officials knew that the trailers were not part of a WMD program.

"The reporting I saw this morning was simply reckless and it was irresponsible," White House spokesman Scott McClellan said. "The lead in The Washington Post left this impression for the reader that the president was saying something he knew at the time not to be true. That is absolutely false, and it is irresponsible."

The article said Bush's comments on May 29, 2003 -- in which he said that two trailers had been found in Iraq that were mobile biological laboratories -- were made despite a May 27 report from a Pentagon-sponsored mission that concluded the trailers had nothing to do with biological weapons. (Watch what the trailers really held -- 1:58)

McClellan said the president was basing his remarks on an intelligence assessment provided by the CIA and the Defense Intelligence Agency on May 28, which said that "coalition forces have uncovered the strongest evidence to date that Iraq was hiding a biological warfare program."

The CIA-DIA report said that Kurdish and U.S. forces had found at least two mobile facilities in late April and early May 2003 near Mosul.

"The design, equipment, and layout of the trailer found in late April is strikingly similar to descriptions provided by a source who was a chemical engineer that managed one of the mobile plants," the report said.

"Secretary of State [Colin] Powell's description of the mobile plants in his speech in February 2003 to the United Nations ... was based primarily on reporting from this source," it added.

McClellan said the rehashing of the information is old news.

"I cannot count how many times the president has said the intelligence was wrong. The Robb-Silberman commission, which was the independent bipartisan commission that looked into this intelligence, said that the intelligence community's assessment of Iraq's biological weapons programs was almost entirely wrong," he said in Wednesday's White House briefing.

McClellan said the administration has implemented reforms to make sure that "the executive branch and the Congress have the best possible intelligence as they move forward to deal with the threats that face this country and face this world."

Intelligence about the mobile biological weapons labs came mainly from a source whose code name was "Curveball."

That information was shared with U.S. intelligence officials and was subsequently used by then-Secretary of State Powell as evidence that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction.

A report last year from the Robb-Silberman commission said some senior CIA officials had begun having doubts about Curveball's credibility in 2002 and took their concerns to senior managers -- and eventually to former Director of Central Intelligence George Tenet and his deputy, John McLaughlin.

The information remained in Powell's U.N. presentation.

The report outlines a meeting in early autumn 2002 between a CIA division chief and a representative of the foreign intelligence service who debriefed Curveball. The division chief said the foreign officer told him Curveball "was crazy ... had had a nervous breakdown and was a fabricator."

According to the division chief, he passed the information to senior managers.

The report cites a meeting in January 2003 when the division chief allegedly told McLaughlin that Curveball was a fabricator.

In April 2005, McLaughlin said he has "absolutely no recall of such a discussion. None."

Rumsfield, Bush and Cheney are being asked about WMD by nutcases, with whom they don't want to argue the facts on public TV. The facts are out there for rational people to read.

In 1995, the liberal press was all aghast that Bush had driven Saddam from Kuwait without being aware of the WMD Iraq had deployed. They savaged George Bush for his "intelligence failures".

Germany sold small biological and chemical weapons manufactguring equipment to Iraq.

China sold Iraq a weapons enrichment factory which they had bought from the former USSR.

Libya turned over nuclear weapons to the US, that the CIA didn't know they had. So did Pakistan. Where did they get them?

wow.

they may be asked about WMD by people you describe in a disparaging fashion, however, the answers that Bush, Cheny and Rumsfeld give are the same: NO WMD found.

Who's a little bit nutcasey?

Lee,

You say "Libya turned over nuclear weapons to the US, that the CIA didn't know they had"

Can you substantiate that claim? As far as i recall, Libya was a long way from producing nuclear weapons and all that was turned over to the CIA was research stuff..it was a long way from a working weapon..

As for WMD in Iraq, it pretty conclusive now there were none...

The truth is Saddam was never able to kick start his various WMD programs due to the sanctions and inspections after GW1...

The various American and British groups searching for the WMD following the invasion did such a good job they uncovered the remnants of chemical weapons abandoned during the Iran/Iraq war in the 1980's...

Remember our guys were not just looking for the weapons thmselves but they were also looking for any of the support or research structure that must be in place to field such weapons...it just wasn't there...

I can assure you that had Bush or Tony Blair had any indication that such weapons had been found, they would have shouted it from the roof tops..remember TB came with in a whisker of having to resign over Government claims the Iraqi's had WMB on 45 minutes stand by to use...

Saddam himself propagated the WMD myth to looked good in the Arab world and to act as deterrance from an allied invasion...It was a stratergy that went badly wrong when Bush and Blair called his bluff and frankly he ended up getting what was long over due to him....

Regards,

Pete

Quick on the verbal abuse, huh, Inspector?

Self-medication on the prescription pain-killers wearing off?

That is a serious question, not an insult.

You're barely worth the former; certainly not worth the latter.
